South should trade their home games for away .... might make the finals that way.

Only saw from 20 minute mark of the second quarter today, but from what I saw we were atrocious while South were average-to-good, very much reflecting our 8th and 6th positions.

Hard to pick a winner for the Eagles, Rowntree perhaps, apart from that it was another half-hearted, "looks-like-I'm trying" rubbish we have seen often this year.

Thought the umpriring was very good, apart from perhaps the htb Lane got against Ottens late in the 3rd. Umpired in the spirit of letting the players play, and when there was a little bit of push and shove, they calmed it down without overreacting

Yep, they've got two games to go againt North at Noarlunga this year. on that basis alone you'd think North will make the five.

Scott Taylor was very good, is he a South junior product? How many league games has he played?

If only South could get a real solid back 6 they would be top 3 material. There midfield is quick and uses the ball well. There forward line with Wundke, Ainger and Rolfe is as dangerous as most, its just their defence is extremly weak and lets them down often.

Much better 4 quarter effort. Liked the games of Taylor, Otten, Rolfe and O'Shea.

Eagles were pretty ordinary. Lacked any real intensity for most of the day.

A "real" bye coming up next week before a couple of home games. Obviously need to start winning at home to be any chance of finals.

Huge effort from South - as far as winning away goes, first win for South since 2005 at Woodville!

Has been a little better of late (27 goals conceded in past 3 games) but is certainly still a weakness. Otten and Veide often are forced to play above their weight/height as we've strugged with our tall backs. Thewlis' run of injuries has obviously hurt, Crabb has been in and out of the side while Brown wasn't big enough and battled also. Redigolo's improvement has been encouraging, and hopefully Crate can resume his role as a reliable small defender. Gotch starting to find some form also.

Often when we get scored heavily against (Alberton about a month ago) a big part of it is due to our midfield's complete lack of accountability.

Last week I said that performance was as pathetic as it could probably get. No I was wrong!!!!

South should have won by 20 points.

I don't think he is a South junior, no. Reckon he is from the Top End actually, might have played with the NT Thunder?

Watched the last 1/4 on the box this afternoon. Thought South looked pretty composed and full of run. Rolfe's goal was a gem.
They have to become more consistent though. Should not have dropped that game to the Bays last week.

One team wanted to work hard and win and the other didn't. I wonder whether Godden will now realise where his team is at and start to plan for the future, because the midfield of the Eagles is getting smashed.

I thought we had one really good player in Kane and I thought Goldsworthy was reasonable.

South are playing with a work rate that can see them push towards a preliminary final if they believe in themselves enough.

South played with great composure today and that proved critical. Finding team mates when under pressure instead of opponents was quite noticeable. And that composure came from two of the younger lads in defence, namely Veide and Redigolo. Otten was fantastic in restricting Grocke to 8 kicks, six of which were outside the fifty, and Brad Crabb played a much better game. Same for Nick Murphy who rebounded strongly and accurately. I thought the move of tagging Lewis in the first half worked well and was surprised we didn't carry it on in the second half.

WE again dominated the clearances and need to show a much greater return on the scoreboard. Thought Wundke was penalised three times when he laid two great tackles and his free for leading and marking being paid as a push was incomprehensible. May have paid the penalty for a spray. Probably cost him three goals as all were within 50. That may have reflected a more accurate reflection of the game.

Have just read that Parry was ill during the game yet was still a good player. Very good effort.

I thought the Eagles played quite indirectly as a result of going short and wide which saw them eventually out in the pockets. They are normally much more direct and this probably reflects South's defensive pressure. Mark McKenzie still very good as was Rowntree and Raymond.

Well done Ronnie, was certainly deserved win by South! The Eagles on field leadership has been unable to get a real collective, unified effort all year and questions must be asked starting with the captain. He's finished and no amount of excuses can hide how naked he is when we lose control of the ball. His kicking has always been dicey but with zero defensive action, he's in the opposition best players too often for our liking! You can't hide as a midfielder, that's why McKenzie can probably keep getting away with it in defence just like Treeby did at the other end of the ground in the last few seasons!

Ahhhhh Treeby, is this character the missing piece of the puzzle or what? Was he the conduit that made the leadership group function while providing toughness and goals onfield. No one, not even Cicca had or played with more swagger for the
Eagles in the last half a dozen seasons then Leigh Treeby and to a lesser extent Rimmington and Allmond.
When heads drop and the effort is'nt 100% week in week out, well the leadership has to take the lion's share of the blame. If the coaches are all in, then changes have to be made with the 'old' leaders as hard as that will be.

Good to see so many familiar faces among the South support staff at Woodville, from the South coach down, but special mention to Nathan Daniel, strong and direct. South very tenacious and quick and the WWT defence stood up reasonably well given South's midfield dominance. Umpires did OK except they/we are lumbered with the holding the ball rule which seems to take the shape of push the ball under your opponent, lie on him and preferably pin his arms too, make extravagant appeals cricketing style to the man in white (well it was red yesterday and how confusing was that), and wait for him (the ump) to crack!. Bit like another game I used to play (soccer) where much effort was put into pressuring the ref rather than just getting on with the game. Anyway, South good, WWT not so good - but there's Norwood next week.
