Leigh makes sure his old club is looked after...

The Gestetner (sp) template of his first memo when he started at the SANFL ensuring that, is still in his top drawer....

Shows how little impact umpires really do have on a game of footy.

West putting it together, but can they match Norwood/Dogs?

Thought we were playing OK in first quarter but once again wasted opportunities in front of goal. Second quarter not too flash but considering how poorly we were playing I felt we were some slight chance at half time if we could turn it around a bit being only three goals down but after that West opened up the floodgates and proved that they do have more than one string to their bow. We played into their hands going forward with some bad choices being made kicking into the 50 as well as some very ordinary disposal that also included missing targets with handball and after some serious improvements in the last month, today we went back to over using the football and some of our AFL listed players would have done their chances of selection soon a lot of harm with their work ethic - or lack of.
Not that I'm privy to 'structures' and game plans but felt that we were sucked up the ground by West - intentionally or not - and feel that when the ball is in your forward line their is no point for all defenders to push up the ground with their forwards as it is far too easy for the opposition on the way back - yes, you will be outnumbered within 50m of the contest but at least you are not allowing the opposition to just run forward and dispose with gay abandon when you are covering space.
Fielke, Birss, Bricknell, Schmidt and Crouch worked very hard both ways for the bloods and their cause was helped by the performance in the middle of Ryan Willits. Brad Fisher always looked dangerous up forward and finished with 5 goals. Thought Hartlett and Ferguson led a very disciplined and smart backline as well.
Aidan Riley was one of the few for us who could hold his head high. Plays taller than he is, has added more to his game from last season and considering his injury issues in the preseason he's playing remarkably well and is probably the next cab off the rank for Crows selection after his last month. Thought Kurtze and Jenkins were serviceable in the ruck and Duldig did work hard up forward considering the delivery, Tambling was OK despite some tardy disposal and Craig Evans tried hard.
As an aside, IMHO, I think Daniel Caire may be a possible AFL draft target at the end of the season. Remember that Kevin Sheahan rated him during his U18 championship year and feel he has improved every year into a very reliable player.

There's very little between West and Norwood .. The Bloods seem to have trouble with the Dogs though (lol as do Norwood)

Why can't West play attacking footy like that every week?

Certainly from Sturt's perspective at least. In their four wins this season they've had more frees in only one match, yet in their eight losses they've only been on the wrong side three times.

I wish we would hearing how we attacked the ball and played well impressed me. Problem is we seem to have a defensive mindset in certain games and it costs us dearly.

More frees in only one win out of four. Okay I make that 1 to 3.
Next, less frees in 3 out of 8 losses. Okay 5 to 3.
Matches where we got more frees: 5 plus 1 is 6
Less frees: 3 plus 3 is 6.
Considering today was a "more frees day" Sturt actually were behind on the overall count going into today's match. 6 matched to 5.
If this is true then why are there posters on here complaining that it's happened [b]again[b]?

We must have been crap today. Big margin. Sad. Need beer.

Sturt... absolutely mind-boggling appalling... certainly backed my call earlier this week that Sturt remained favourites for the spoon. I have to ask myself why I drive 100km to watch such a p*** w*** performance...

This was a HUGELY important game, like the South one a couple of weeks back. No one gives a s*** about the Norwood game, never expected to win, so who cares, but this was a game against an opponent we should have been able to match, yet we were out worked and out played, we just looked hamstrung, clumsy and stiffled the whole day.

Again... appalling performance.

Deserving of the spoon... and this was basically a full strength side.

West... ho hum... I thought they were OK, but I wouldn't be too worried if I were Norwood or Central. That said, they're obviously the third best team in the league, but that says more about our league I think.

WA would have beaten Norwood, except for the umpires
Shows how much impact umpires really do have on a game of footy ;)

No. If West hadn't given way a free kick in the dying seconds, and West had kicked more than 4 goals in the game, then Norwood wouldn't have won.

About 16 in the back frees in the last quarter and 2 are given
Including DeyRods freebie on the buzzer, the decision that cost WA the game

But MAL the free to D-Rod was obviously there as anyone who had a multi bet with Norwood in it will testify :D :D ;)
