Good move as most AFL finals are at night these days to maximise TV so leave Sat arvo devoid of footy, although it might clash with some local GF's.

If only they would move these finals to neutral suburban grounds it would be fantastic.

I agree with all except the neutral part. Reckon it would be great for home finals to reward the sides that finish higher on the ladder and also reward the local fans of each side

Id prefer a double header at a neutral ground, e.g. say Sturt/North followed by Norwood/Centrals at Richmond would get 10-12k and would be a fantastic atmosphere, almost going back to the old days of SANFL.

Think this is a bad idea, unless it was coupled making the GF Saturday.
Given the lower standing of the SANFL now, can't imagine many choosing the SANFL over their local GF's. Wish it wasn't so, but it is.

Coming to Australia for the finals and initially I was going to get into Adelaide on the Saturday for the first week, pretty glad I gave myself a couple days to play with now

Would've loved to have had the recovery day in years gone by when a big day had to be backed up with work on the Monday morning.

Won't happen.

The logistics of potentially having one club with teams at different grounds and facilities is one that would happen at regularly. For example if they had that system last year in the 2nd week of finals, when Norwood played Centrals at Elizabeth, who would have played the reserves game before hand - Centrals v Port or Glenelg v Norwood???

One of Norwood or Centrals would have had to split their match day staff and equipment between Woodville and Elizabeth. Given league and reserves teams share, water bottles, drink containers, medical equipment, property staff, training staff and medical staff no club will agree to having finals played at suburban venues. they don't have the resources to make it happen.

Given the current state of both the Reserves and League ladders the same situaltion is likely in the 2nd week of finals this year (even allowing for the current league team in 4th position losing the 1st final   ) Norwood would play Centrals in the league 2nd sem and sturt in the ressies at one ground for arguments sake. In the 1st Semi finals it would be West and Glenelg ( [-o< ) and West and Centrals in the ressies at another ground. Either Norwood, West or Centrals would have to split their match day resources (provided centrals didn't lose the Elimination Final to Port). depending on how they configured the finals match ups/locations

The other logistical nightmare is only one venue has the facilities where it could happen (if you have four different clubs playing on the one day) or host double header finals - Norwood Oval. They have or did have two additional changerooms under the western stand which could be used for the reserves or the Elimination/1st Semi final. All other grounds have the space in the home team changerooms but the away rooms could not fit two seperate clubs in the one rooms (A league side getting ready whilst another clubs rserves are playing) For the same reasons listed above apart from guernseys everything for the league team is used for the reserves so no way could you use Alberton, Glenelg, Unley, Noarlunga, Richmond. It is possible to an extent at Woodville, Elizabeth and Prospect as those away rooms have sufficeint space.

Another thing is players of the finals clubs like playing at Footy park or in the Old Days Adelaide oval. It has great facilities, has a special feel and rewards those players for making finals. Like supporters they are stakeholders in tehg ame too so why shouldn't they get the opportunity to play on Footy park or the new Adelaide Oval if SANFL finals get played there??

Maybe they will play the Reserves and Underage finals at neutral venues with lights, on the Friday night?

You certainly wouldnt play reserves the same day.

Facilities can be worked around, look at Adelaide Oval when the western stand wasnt there.

Sadly apart from the GF AAMI doesnt create any form of the atmosphere that we are used to during the season. SANFL needs to be bold take a punt and do something different.

Suits me better but QUESTION

Will having amatuer and country football finals being played across SA at the exact same time affect crowd numbers?

Is it a good thing to be changing games to a day we would expect less crowd numbers!

Personally for me the way to keep the SANFL strong is to maximise crowd numbers. The more people at games the more people who will remain interested and introduce new people to the SANFL.

I can understand why the SANFL is moving to a Saturday but it does slightly alienate the exact market of people who are interested in football, the players and spectators themselves.

They refurbished two spaces to make changerroms to allow it to happen,. Are you suggesting the SANFL is going to finance new facilities at all suburban grounds to allow finals to be played there sometime??

Wouldnt the obvious choice be the ressies play on the Sunday at suburban grounds.

According to Adelaidenow the SANFL have said finals still maybe Sunday depending on where and when and if the Crows are still playing finals.

Could become a bit of a joke!

Personally i think this close to finals they need to set their dates and if it has to be a Sunday then so be it. The days of supporters working mon-fri 9-5 are long gone, by leaving it up in the air, they are leaving alot of fans in the lurch when it comes to making plans, getting work off etc etc.

The longer they leave it the more it will become in the 'too hard basket' for a lot of people. Im not talking the die hards moreso the casual fans.

Agree whufc, why change what seems to have been working reasonably well.

For the conspiracy theorists, I wonder if there is not something underhand here by the ABC.
I hope this doesn't eventuate, but it wouldn't surprise me if the crowd was down 20% on what we would have expected on a Sunday, and the same, if not more, in the TV ratings, given people attending their local GF's.
The ABC, as they have already done with normal Saturday matches, will be able to point to these declines as a reason for axing the coverage.

No but it could be worked with temporary facilities if needed, its not as if both teams are in there at the same time. Works OK with ressies at the moment, and wouldnt be much different.

It works with the Ressies because they are from the same club.
As amBays said, in finals it only works with 2 different clubs because there are seperate rooms.
Even at Footy Park in finals the Ressies are sent to a seperate small room for the half time break, if another club is using the good sized one for League pre-game prep.
