Who is the most improved SANFL player in 2012?

Postby scrappy1 » Tue Jun 12, 2012 10:07 am

I havnt watched all that much sanfl footy this year but I ventured down to prospect as a mutual supporter on the weekend.
Saw 2 guys on the weekend that have improved out of sight from when I last saw them play.
James Bennett & Greg Gallman looked like genuine league footballers on the weekend and when speaking to a North supporter he agreed that they've improved out of sight this year.
Just wondering who people thought is the most improved SANFL player so far this year?

I can't recall much of Bennett from previous seasons, but Gallman I thought was exceptional on Saturday, and I often caught myself thinking how much better our side would be if we had someone like him (Thats not to say Jonas and Georgiou aren't quality players).

It would be interesting to see if he recieves any attention from AFL clubs?

Wouldnt think so, has been there and the extra work they do didnt suit his body. Injured too often. I wonder the last time he played 10 games straight?

Having seen a fair bit of most clubs both last season and this year, I'll give my thoughts on a few improvers from each club...

Norwood - Tim Webber, Matt Fuller, Dean Terlich (Surprise Packet - Mark Evans)
Central - Jarrod Schiller, Jack Hannath, Justin Hardy (Surprise Packet - Paul Marschall)
West - Adam Hartlett, Ben MacReadie, Jonno Beech (Surprise Packet - Rory Laird)
Glenelg - Brad Agnew, Andrew Bradley, Warwick McGinty (Surprise Packet - Josh Trembath)
North - James Bennett, Greg Gallman, Kriston Thompson (Surprise Packet - Mitch Clisby)

Port - Kory Beard, Sam Gray, Daniel Kulikowski (Surprise Packet - Matt Scanlon)
Sturt - Fraser Evans, Ben Hansen, Matthew Crocker (Surprise Packet - Jack Stephens)
South - Andrew Ainger, Tarak Redigolo, Jake Veide (Surprise Packet - Scott Taylor)
Eagles - Phil Raymond, Jake Fairclough, Cameron Ellis-Yolman (Surprise Packet - Byron Sumner)

Ha ha - oops

I actually had the Westies web site up and was looking at some player Bios when I put those in, hence I had the Bloods lad in the North list. I know what I meant ;)

All changed now... :)

Yeah, I do agree those 2 blokes have been great but I though Harder was a star last year and then injured this year so didn't consider him in my list.

Zane Kirkwood has been around a while now and has played some very good footy for you guys but has been a little up and down in my opinion.

The others I mentioned have been great this year, in my humble opinion.

From South Ainger seems to be the one that has really stood up, has done better than several recruits that have appeared to have promised a lot and delivered very little anyway!

James Bennett did finish third in North's B & F last season, so I would argue that his big improvement was last year. It is true that he has improved more this year. I think Mitch Clisby and Greg Gallman are the most improved players at North this year.

Raymond has improved a lot from this time last year, but not sure he is playing any better than at the end of last year.
Sumner seems to be starting to find his feet over the last few weeks, and starting to play how I expected him to, but he would have been playing like this two years ago anyway if he hadn't been drafted.

Rowntree would be the only Eagles who has improved at league level this season. Is now our best midfielder. I would say only Grieger and Jarrad have maintained their game to the highest standard. The rest have stagnated or declined.
