I thought Glenelg got a ride in the first and Port got one in the third. Otherwise the umps were average. Nice to see the ump in the pocket call a free from 50+ metres away when the central umpire missed it from 10 metres.

Random observations:

18 points to Glenelg is a fair margin for the game. I reckon the Bays could have won by 6 or 7 goals if they'd wanted to, but took their foot off the pedal in the second and let Port in. To their credit Port had a dip all match, right to the final siren, and made Glenelg earn the points.

Port's defence impressed me, was pretty tight all night. Was a period in the last when Glenelg had the ball in the forward 50 for maybe 5 minutes and came away with a handful of behinds and a couple of out-of-bounds-on-the-full. At one point in the third I thought we were playing West Adelaide; Port went the uberflood.

In the fourth Port made a number of kicks forward which managed to hit unmarked Glenelg defenders on the chest with amazing precision. Did Glenelg have a loose man down back in this term?

Saw Glenelg players slipping over in the dew more than a few times, Port players held their feet comparably well.

Good hard game, great to see the bays hold off a pretty determined team.

Much better effort than last week. Good night at the footy.

Thought there was 5500+ there tonight, surprised by the crowd figure.

Rnd 9 - Glenelg v Port POST GAME DISCUSSIONS

Postby Dols » Sat May 19, 2012 12:35 am

Umm obviously watching a different game to me. Glenelg got 6 goals from free kicks, now that is a nice ride! First qtr was fairly even, glenelg just a little bit classier when finishing. Port dominated the first part of the second kicking the first five goals, 2 late goals to the bays put them within a goal at half time. The third was dominated by glenelg, at one stage they kicked 7 out of 8 goals. The last qtr saw port trailing by 14 points. A missed goal by Wilson 1 min in and a dubious free and 25 against gray probably were deciding factors in a 3 goal win to glenelg. Overall the bays had too much class when it counted, especially up forward.

Happy to get the points after the debacles of the last fortnight.

Could have easily won by 6 or 7 goals but a combination of wasteful entries up forward and a dogged Port defence kept the margin down to 3.

Was a good enough effort to get the points tonight but need to improve significantly to worry the top sides.

Richard Douglas was outstanding and expect him to line up with the Crows in his next game.

Another cold night ... will be a novelty to play under the sun again.

Has the last 3 weeks been a fair reflection on where Glenelg are at. Probably a fair distance of the top two sides especially away from home. But will be very competitive against the rest of the comp and generally beat the bottom sides fairly easy!!!

Yeah, I was too Dutchy and heard post game that the Cricket Club attendees weren't officially counted for some reason last night, so there was more than the 4,700 listed.

Around the 5K is a pretty healthy crowd for the SANFL imho.

Considering it was pretty cold last night Glenelg are going ok and the Port arent flying that nots bad. With the Crows going really well may also affect SANFL crowds this year.

Would be interesting for people with the stats is.......

Have crowd figures flucuated in connection with the Crows season performances?

Correct weight ...

On the crowd, around 5,000 seemed right to me, but my eyes aren't what they used to be.

I'll take the win but gee we're still a massive work in progress. Need to work on our consistency can't afford to drop in and out of games.

Yep we get two goals from free kicks that you thought WTF was that for but if Thurgood's was a free kick at the end of the third, so was Kirky's at the opposite end 5 mins before that when he controlled the footy and was scragged at he same time in the marking contest. Don't get me started on Cockshell playing hot potato with the footy in the 2nd qtr 30 m out directly in front of goal when he was tackled for the 2nd time. So it evened out in the end.

Chance for a break then huge game agaisnt North.

Also a massive like to the Port Adelaide Football Club player who "liked" the posting on Facebook of the Boys singing the song after beating the magpies!!!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

re the crowd, we pulled into the school at 6.20 and were surprised at how few cars were there, i thought that 4766 was overstated but we all have differing opinions
