Magpies played a lot better than previously, both teams butchered shots at goal all day, James Allan will have a week off, cocks supporters sooked big time while leaving, TSG told me to shut my mouth after bagging an umpire in the live scores thread..

Not sure why it is, but North seem to play in a way that the players appear disinterested. One gets the feeling that they are capable of playing to a much higher standard, but rarely get into top gear on the field and take the game when its there. Irrespective of what the reasons are, the buck stops with Josh Francou and NAFC members are entitled to expect more from him than what they are currently getting on the field. Francou had plenty to say in the media prior to being given the job....

As for Port, they played some good footy today and were rewarded for it accordingly. Considering many people regard their list as "thin", They still seem to be able to win anyway.

Well deserved win by the magpies. A more even team performance.

North rely on too few, and missed too many easy shots on goal.

You don't know what you're talking about. Players are showing a heap more endeavour under Francou. Some players out there are inexperienced or not up to standard yet.

Agreed mate. Dumb rule.

Only North can outplay their opposition for three quarters and still lose. Mind you Ports first quarter was easily the most dominant of any side for the game.

NOt sure what the crowd number was but it looked pretty disappointing at the ground. Looked like one of the lowest I've seen at alberton.

Was a good win. North always threatened to get in front in the last three quarters but Port steadied each time and always seemed to get back out to a 2-3 goal lead. There was quite a bit of feeling in the match in the first quarter. Didn't quite catch the Allan incident but apparently he elbowed someone in the face off the ball. Quite a number of times players of both sides were coming off the ground together and getting involved in some verbal, and Cockshell and Bennett had a wrestle as they crossed the line for the interchange gates.

Was a pretty good contest really. A case of all played well for Port. Gray, Summerton, Beard, Raikiwasa, Rose, Biacsi, Slattery well all good. Wilson had by far his best game of the year and actually looked like a league footballer. Played a lot up the ground and got a lot of kicks on a wing.

For North, Allan got a lot of the ball but not sure he was all that damaging with it, Bennett I thought was clear best player for North. Just tried to will his team over the line. Moore had a great last three quarters. Miles was good, Clinch had a huge last quarter and was the key in Norths comeback and Ryswyk ran all day and provided head aches for Port going forward.

As I said, it looked likely that North was going to pinch it a few times in the second half and with 8 points in it with a couple of minutes left, Meiklejohn from a free kick just outside the 50 decided to kick the ball sideways which was cut off, North had players streaming forward everywhere but just couldn't goal from it. Would have made things interesting had they gaoled from that foray forward.

Nice to see the Pies get up in a close one.

bounce or throw by a field Umpire or a boundary throw in, shall be regarded as having had prior opportunity. - the throw in where Allan was pinged was the second after the first was recalled as stated above, and the second also was a poor throw in. If he was the only one who could take control of the ball - wrong decision for HTB!

The umpire is supposed to call play on if it is a bad throw in before the ball arrives at the ruck contest and then the ball can be grabbed and it's not holding the ball. The ump didn't call play on so the HTB was correct. The umpire was wrong in not calling play on though.

Wilson's non goal in the last quarter looked like it went pretty much straight through the middle when I saw it on a replay after the game.

I don't know what the big guy was thinking! It's not the first time he has done it this year either. Just get it in there!

Was right behind that kick and it was clearly a goal. Went about a foot inside the left goal post from our view. Goal umpire would have had the sun in his eyes I reckon.

You are perhaps getting confused with Law 11.3.6

It was the wrong decision like many others during the day (for both sides) and the umpiring continues to be appalling.

There was a north goal in the 2nd quarter which looked like it went about 2 foot wide of the goal post and was paid a goal . The north fans near us ( in the line of the ball) thoight it was hilarious

Im not a stats man but is Bennetts 17 clearances for North some kind of record or something!
