Rnd 8 - Port Magpies v North Adelaide @ Alberton (Sat 12/5)

The Magpies have lost 5 on the trot and have been one of the most disappointing sides for far in 2012. The Roosters will be pleased to have beaten the Double Blues and not drop a close game as they did a fair bit last season. This should be a good game, as it usually is between these 2 sides at Alberton, which could go either way.

North Adelaide are injury depleted at the moment so their depth will really be tested this coming weekend, while Tony Bamford's men need to get themselves out of the rut they are in before their season is completely gone.

No fears for North at Alberton ( ar anyone for that matter anymore ) and we look completely devoid of any confidence at all.

I believe the players and coaches had a heart to heart on Sunday after recovery, well, I believe they we going to and would be interested to have that confirmed and the content of that discussion, obviously not going to get much of the content in an open forum, but you all know what I mean.

Would really need to pull one out of the bag to see a Port win.

North has the best record of any visiting team at Alberton in recent memory, does it not?

The Roosters in a canter.

Think you will find Centrals is pretty good, havent lost to them in the last 5 or 6 years or something like that.

I think you will find most clubs have a pretty good record against Port at Alberton over the past decade.
North will win this easily.

Historically North have won twice as often at Alberton as any other visiting club. North have won their 17 times since 1981. I have seen North win at Alberton 20 times that I can remember. I wish we had as good a record against them at other grounds.

North have won the last 3 contests between these 2 sides at Alberton, Port the previous 2 to that.

Central have beaten Port at Alberton in their last 5 clashes.

How far back do you want to go though. North have won 8 of their last 10 at Alberton.

Ah, fair enough mate...

I was just going by the stats in the FOOT-e TIMES SA magazine that only listed the last 5 contests...

before Port won the two in a row that BP mentioned, didnt North win something like 8 or 9 on the trot there? (it may not be that many, i am actually not sure on the exact number) and wasnt that the record for consecutive wins by a visiting side at alberton? (at the time, it may have since been beaten by another club, maybe Centrals?)

Regardless of the specifics of those stats, it does paint the picture that Alberton is no longer the feared ground it once used to be.

North Adelaide would really fancy themselves in this one but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Maggies turn things around, finally.

Regardless of the stats I still have a fear of Alberton's BBQ.

There is no way this is going to be an easy win for North based on some of the predications on this topic - far from it in fact!

Injuries mounting at Prospect, North will be missing 2 regular midfielders in G. Thring and Delvins and that adds to the lack of replacement midfielders such as Fenton and Backwell also unavailable with long term injuries. It will expose the likes of Davey to more time on the ball and give opportunities for Handby, Amato or Armstrong to come in and perform. Key defender Todd Miles (named in the Adelaide Now MM Centreman Column today as Sam Miles!) also out for a few along with another tall defensive option in Jake Keller so that hurts our defensive depth and throw in Alleway as an out as well and our overall depth is getting a strong test at present. Not to mention the ressies with 13 out injured at the moment, College Football plus the usual exodus of fringe players leaving for the Ammo's and Country Leagues after working out $80 bucks a game at Ressies level on average is not enough to put in the same work as the high paid league stars!

Also Port will be desperate to keep their season alive so they will be throwing everything at North this week.

Apart from the 1st game or 2 last season, the bbq was the best in league for steak sandwiches. A lot of overrated bbq's in the SANFL.

I've been a critic of the Alberton BBQ before, but I must say that the snags I had at the second Glenelg game @ Alberton last year (July 23) were top-notch, served with a smile, and inexpensively priced.
