Bamford or Primus?

It would be wise to do it on the same day. Save on a few administration costs.

Its not unusual for football fans to call for coach sackings when their team dishes up pathetic crap, so I'm not sure TPFP is any different to any other footy forum in that regard.

No it's not but two Senior Coaches at ONE club at the same time - can't see that can happen anywhere else in Oz at the moment!

Maybe it's a Keith Thomas / SANFL plot to undermine the One Club deal?

Dont think Bamford is that bad, Primus on the other hand is one of the worst coaches going around

Considering what Tony Bamford has to work with, he has done a reasonable job IMO. With the same resources its hard to to see another SANFL coach getting a different result. Looking back over the seasons that he has coached there have been few marquee players recruited to the club unlike others. They could well have finished bottom last season on expectations at the beginning of the year but did not and I don't think they will finish anything like bottom this season either.

Primus on the other hand seems to be struggling. Being beaten by the Gold Coast did not help matters last season. Being beaten by GWS this season would no doubt bring a chorus line of people calling for his head if they are not already. Its likely they don't disclose publicly the final figure of a Senior Coaches wage, but I would not be surprised to learn that his package was the least of the other clubs, it may well have changed, yet Port were in a very tight spot financially when he was hired, One would think its changed now that the grant has come through from the AFL, but my understanding is that over the recent years finances have meant that they cannot pay the full 100% of the Salary Cap to the list and that is always going to put any coach under the pump. The question is have things changed? Is the coin there to pay a Senior Coach the wages that others are receiving for the same work at other clubs, can the club commit to paying the the full 100% of the salary cap? If the answer is yes then then might as well go chase a new Senior Coach. if not they might as well leave Primus in the job and hope that they can unearth some good players through the traditional rebuilding formula.

Im prepared to give Matthew Primus the benefit of the doubt
The doubt being , he could be a successful coach with a better squad
Quite simply, Im not sure if any other current AFL coach could get PP into the finals

He cant coach IMO
Port could save themselves plenty of cash and get anyone off the street to do as good as him.
To think they turned down Chris Scott for him is staggering

It was a mistake not getting Chris Scott, I agree.

Whether he was a realistic option in terms of his demanded salary and what resources he was requiring/demanding to do the job, I guess thats another thing.

Not sure if fact or not but I believe he interviewed poor and wasnt asked back for a secondary chat.

Scott was a near certainty according to some members of the board from the mail I had .. Whether it was finances, a fear of backlash from members or both, I'm not sure why he didn't go on to get the job.

IMHO Ports problem(s) run deeper than just their coach .. He may well be part of it, I dunno, but the list is average to say the least.
