The south-west pocket, right?

It exists in my mind, and presumably in the minds of any SANFL fan old enough to remember :)

1989: Graham Campbell outlines the theory that saw a pocket named after him.

Until Tony Hall stole the naming rights in 1992.

When having a shot in that pocket, almost regardless of the wind direction, you had to aim just outside the right hand goal post, or keep it low. Dont know why but if you didnt chances were it was going to be a point. No problems in the opposite pocket tho.

I used to do reverse torps from that pocket generally, worked beautifully

I remember in the 2010 SANFL GF Norwood plonked about 3 goals in succession in the 2nd quarter from that pocket

Was a fantastic goal, but why didnt he put the ball under the arm and run in alot closer to slot it?

LOl Graham Campbell's impossible pocket...

Wasn't the theory supposedly put to bed when the Superboxes got built?

Wouldn't that prove the opposite?

It makes sense though that that pocket would have been more difficult than other grounds. Remember that kicking from that side of the goals is slightly more difficult on any ground as most players are right footed.

- kicking with the preferred foot would give you a smaller area to aim for making it more difficult
- kicking with the non preferred foot would make the kick less accurate (how many players were elite enough to kick with pinpoint accuracy from both feet?)

Add into the mix a crappy wind swirl in that pocket which was lessened by the superboxes and Graham Campbells "impossible pocket" theory sounds feasible.
