Round 6 - South v Port @ Hickinbotham Oval (Sat 28/4)

The Panthers will be full of confidence coming of their win over the Tigers on the road while Port Magpies failed to fire a shot against the Doggies and will be desperate to get their season back in the winners circle with victory on the road.

South have been good on the road of late and struggle on home soil so the Maggies will look to capitalise on any area they can to get the points here. Tony Bamford said there may be some changes to his line up as some players aren't performing.

Ron Fuller will be pleased to have Wundke back in his side, providing a strong focal point in attack with Andrew Ainger so both Kory Beard and Nick Madden will have their hands full in defence for Port.

Again, am going to wait for selection before deciding who my tip will be for this one, as AFL selections and demotions may come into the equation for both sides.

Team selection for South poses some welcome hard decisions. Xavier Gotch resumes after a long lay off but I expect a comeback through the two's. Justin Bollenhagen should get a recall after a five goal best player performance last week in the two's. Dowdell may still have much to learn but can he get hold of the ball. Again last week 40 plus hitouts and 20 plus disposals must make selection difficult. Weather forecast may be the key.

A record crowd for a Port game at Noarlunga is assured this week as the guest speaker at the Chairmans lunch is Michaleangelo Rucci. Even noticed an ad in the paper yesterday.

Again, I expect to win by 10 goals.

Yes South will have a few selection headaches this week. Something we are not accustomed too. Bollenhagen has responded well to his dropping and will surely come back. Mckernans game for the crows was well...less than inspiring and he may be back. A few coming back from injury but may need a run in the twos first.Thewlis again injured at work, at least it wasnt a nailgun this time!! out for 5 weeks.
I agree DOC, Dowdell may come into calculations... but the weather may have a bearing on his inclusion along with McKernans.
Great to see Michelangelo Rucci as guest speaker at Souths Presidents lunch, should be most entertaining.......... I hope he has got gps in his car as Im sure he wouldnt have been to Hickinbotham Oval and would need directions.

From Adelaidenow:

SOUTH ADELAIDE v PORT ADELAIDE
HICKINBOTHAM OVAL, TOMORROW, 2.10pm

Panthers
F: Ainger, Wundke, Rolfe
HF: Veide, Hourigan, T. McKay
C: Daniel, Stribling, Bollenhagen
HB: McNamara, O'Shea, Cross
B: Redigolo, Tarquin Brown, Sandery
RUCK: Bass, Murphy, Liddle
INT (from): Moyle, Dowdell, Miller, Houlihan, Carey
INTO 23: Dowdell, Bollenhagen, Moyle, Veide
OUT: Ottens (Crows), Brooskby (calf)

Magpies
F: Mercer, Ebert, Clayton
HF: McKenzie, Beard, Rose
C: Biacsi, Summerton, Dolling
HB: Hoskin, Wilson, Slattery
B: Madden, Erskine, Stanley
RUCK: Meiklejohn, Kirkwood, Gray
INT (from): Cockshell, Kulikowski, Young, Grove, Brain
INTO 23: Grove, Brain

Who are Ottens and Brooskby? Pedantic yes.

Keen to have a look at Dowdell. Veide back after breaking his leg in rather innocuous circumstances late last year. Bollenhagen very good in the 2s last week. Full forward line looks strong, just need to get the ball through CHF...

Wilson named at CHB is an interesting selection/position. Looking at giving him a role to play to try and get him closer to the ball?

South were very good last week but traditionally struggle against Port.

Port have had a poor start to the year but somehow I see them getting over the Panthers.

If they don't, the season is starting to look grim after a very promising start.

Port by 20 points.

How often are 2 players dropped from an extended side, are actually named to start on the ground?

I'd like to see Wilson play full forward deep from the goal square not 25-30 metres out from the square.
Wilson is finding himself caught under the ball alot at the contest & even if he was holding marks at those contests he's finding himself way outside 50 & not within scoring range coz he's starting his leads too far out from the goalsquare.
Wilson no doubt can play, his confidence is shot at present & as a result he's out of form, he needs to be given space infront to present himself not have players sitting in front of him blocking his path, look out when he gets his confidence back.
Eberts another who needs more time on the ball to get his form back, he looks like a lost sheep at half forward, didn't he win a Magarey Medal on the ball?
Another thing that annoys the sh!t out of me is continual rotations, trying to keep up with the AFL.
Have faith in your players, they themselves should know when they need a break, at one stage i saw Ebert, Clayton & Banner starting on the bench WTF.

Given South's capacity to disappoint it's fans (especially at home), I'm sorry to say that last week's impressive victory over Glenelg will prove to be yet another false dawn.

Port by 35 points.

Here at Noarlunga now, on a picture perfect day for football, will post score updates throughout the day in the LIVE scores thread...

Interesting to see Big Callum Wilson has been dropped, running around now in the early game, along with Brad Mercer. Bamford has obviously lost patience with the West Coast recruit and young Corey Grove gets another shot at League level.

James Brain will debut for Port while for the homeside, Brad Crabb is running around in the magoos for the Panthers, as is young excitement machine Ky Miller...

The last 6 games between these 2 sides have been split at 3 wins each, but South Adelaide have lost thier last 6 games at home...

Here at Noarlunga between these 2 combatants, the Magpies have been victorious in 4 of the last 6 contests...

Just found out that for today's ABC TV coverage, former umpire Richard Williams will be in the Special Comments seat...

Good work by ABC to get him involved, looking forward to seeing how that unfolds...
