U/18 South v Glenelg match abandoned

Last night the South v Glenelg U/18 match at Noarlunga was called off at some point during the game due to a lighting failure. The lights failed during the last quarter of the U/16 as the southern end lights had overheated. They were switched off and the match completed in very dark but safe enough conditions. They were switched on again in time for the U/18 but from quarter time onwards it was now necessary for the lights to be on as it was well after sunset. Sometime after I left just before quarter time (Glenelg leading South 2.4 [16] to 0.1 [1]) the lights failed again and the match didn't recommence.

Was anyone there who knew if the match stopped before or after half time?

Citing the laws of the game, if the lights failed before half time then the match will be considered a draw but the current scores will still be taken into account for percentage. After that point, though, the team in front will be deemed the winner.
10.6.2 Incomplete match
If a Match is unable to commence or continue within the time
scheduled for the Match for reasons beyond the control of
either Team (including circumstances where it is unsafe for the
Match to proceed) the following shall apply:
(a) Match Not Commenced
The result of a Match which is unable to commence for reasons
beyond the control of the Team shall be determined
by the Controlling Body.
(b) Prior to Half Time
If a Match has commenced but is not able to proceed at any
time within the time scheduled for the Match, the Teams shall
depart from the Arena.
If the Match is unable to recommence within a 30-minute
period, the Match shall be deemed to be drawn and the scores
of the Teams at the time the Match was interrupted shall be
used in calculating the percentage of each Team.
(c) Half Time & Beyond
If the Half Time interval has been reached and the Match is
unable to proceed at any time within the time scheduled for
the Match, the Teams shall leave the Arena, or in the case of
Half Time, not return to the Arena.
If the Match is unable to recommence within a 30-minute
period, the scores of the Teams at the time the Match was
interrupted shall be deemed to be the final scores of the
Match. The Team with the highest score shall be deemed
the winner of the Match and the scores shall be used in
calculating the percentage of each Team.

This match should be replayed.

If the 18's miss the finals by a point, after this game not finishing it's a joke.

The Bays were flogging Souths and were on track for a 50 - 60 plus win.

Punish the home team not the visiting....

Commonsense should prevail and either this game should be replayed on a weekend where there is no games like the state game weekend.

Or at under 18 level the remaining 3 quarters should be played mid week.

Glenelg under no circumstances deserved to be penalised from this.

Any danger of Glenelg moving into the digital age any time soon in regards to the time piece??

Easily the worst one in the league that looks like it hasn't been touched since 1969

Back to the u/18's South should just forfeit the game it would probably be a better result

The time clock is more than adequate ... just so long as it works.

Nothing wrong with keeping some history,.

And Sturt's kindy scoreboard is up to scratch?

Defy the laws of the game for an 18s match?

Do you think Glenelg possibly could miss an extra spot on the ladder because of something they had zero control over.

Not relevant. The rules need to be adhered to.

South should be held to account, but we can't just ignore what the rules demand in this situation.

Fair enough, the rules need to be changed.

The scoreboard at Unley is fine. The time clock at Glenelg is very hard to see at night as is the scoreboard. Minor issue but fixable.

IIRC the clock was changed some time in the nineties. I reckon the full circle of the old clock face was calibrated to 30 minutes. Was changed to the more standard 60 minutes.

An analogue clock shouldn't present a problem to anyone who successfully completed primary school. At least the Bays didn't stick a light pole in front of their scoreboard

LOL - can't work out why they just don't move the scoreboard however being a North supporter we cannot even get our time clock and siren up to an acceptable level so far from me to comment on another club's **** ups!

If you stand in front of the cricket club at Glenelg you will notice a lightpole directly in front of the timeclock.
Not that you can read it because its so poorly illuminated.
