Reported today in The Advertiser that Norwood Skipper Keiran McGuinness had the scan on his knee and whilst it did show a slight tear in the ACL, it may not require a reconstruction so it might still not be season over for him.

He is going to go in for some arthroscopic surgery in the next few days to see the full extent of the injury, from which a final prognosis can be determined and Legs fans will have a better idea of how long he may be out of the side.

Fingers crossed it is the better news for him...

Cheers BP.

I just wish this list was a bit more consistent/standardised. There are so many different descriptors used and far too much variability described in terms of estimated time out of the game.

For example - expected time out descriptors range between test, indefinite, a specified number of weeks (eg 3), season, a range of weeks (6-8) or available.

At Central, osteitus pubis is by and large an indefinite time out. Unsurprising. However, at South, they must have a magic pill because their two guys with OP are only out for precisely a week more, each.

At times, similar injuries have different descriptors. eg ACL Knee ( is their an ACL anywhere else in the body) might be described as indefinite, or season.

In some particular cases, the descriptions are also unique. eg Parry-elbow-test. Surely, it's a case of, he has an infection from which would be expected to have recovered from in a certain timeframe? Surely Parry doesn't need a test to come back into selection contention?
Logan Hill has an illness but is available - so why is he on the injury list at all?
Panozzo has a Shoulder/Calf keeping him out for a week. Is that Elephantitis? Strange!

I guess I'm just saying that some greater standardisation of injury lists would be better and enable everyone to compare apples with apples and form a common picture. More extensive illustrations of inconsistent descriptors are shown below.

CENTRAL DISTRICT
Thomas Dunne - ankle - test
Callum Hay - osteo pubis - indefinite
Andrew Hayes - dislocated shoulder - indefinite
Cameron Milne - shoulder - 11 weeks
Jay Nash - hamstring - 3 weeks
Alan Obst - ACL knee - indefinite
Adam Varcoe - ACL knee - season

NORWOOD

Henry Davis - knee – indefinite
Bryce Campbell - knee – season
Kieran McGuinness - knee – indefinite

NORTH ADELAIDE
Jonathon Platten – hand – 6-8 weeks

SOUTH ADELAIDE
Michael Wundke - osteitis pubis - 1 week
Xavier Gotch - osteitis pubis - 1 week

STURT
Luke Panozzo - shoulder/calf - 1 week

WEST ADELAIDE
Logan Hill, illness, available

WOODVILLE-WEST TORRENS
Craig Parry – elbow –test

I can see where you're coming from but the variance in terms used, descriptions, and periods expected before return, is because the information is supplied from each club individually.

Each club's medical team writes their own list, then forwards it on to the SANFL.

SANFL just collates the lists, then publishes it as a matter of interest for supporters, not for any other purpose.

I'm not sure what your problem is with "test" squawk?

I realise that the clubs provide the details but that leaves those details open to the whims of each club. If there was a standardisation of reporting, it would be much more helpful IMHO. I'm grateful for the basic information - I just think the bar could be raised a bit for reporting.

As for the term "test" - I can see the value for a fitness test associated with a soft tissue or similar injury. For a straight out infection though (as in Parry's case), I figure the recovery timeframes are pretty standard for people who are genuinely fit and there should be more certainty about his date of resumption. I seriously cant imagine them doing a fitness test for Parry before selection.

Oh my lord. Everyone recovers from ailments at different speeds. Parry hasn't got an ear infection. He has golden staph apparently.

Logan hill is on the injury list because he missed the last game due to an illness. He is now available. So he is on the injury list to simply let the people know why he missed last game (since he got ruled out friday) and that he will be available this game.

Jai Bednall has just tweeted on his MMCM feed that Keiran McGuinness had a full reconstruction today and will miss the rest of the season.

https://twitter.com/#!/mmcmsanfl

Terrible news for the Redlegs and Keiran. All the best to him in his rehabilitation...

The time length Lairdy has quoted players being out for in this weeks Messenger paper is a lot different to what they have supplied the SANFL.

Lairdy has said Thomas Dunne is still 3 weeks away while he said Chad is having problems with his foot and is still 5 weeks away, he also said 4-5 for Kyle Jenner as well.

Terrible news for Norwood and McGuinness.

Norwood will be a lesser side without him in their defence.

Unlike other sides have a better than even chance of making up for his lose due to their depth!

No chance! McGuinnes arguably the best defender in SANFL. At very worse in the top 3, if Norwood had someone as good as him he would be playing now. If he is playing now then they are taking him away from current position to play McGuinness role.
There is a reason why some players are better than others McGuinnes GUN!

I understand what you are saying, your 2's are playing good footy and have some good defenders running around for them, BUT surely no-one can make up for the loss of a Captain and one of your best players?

A big blow for the Redlegs, will be interesting to see if their game style coming out of defence now changes with the skipper out of action, having played that quarter back type role.

I dont care about how they bring the ball out of defence im sick of watching him take uncontested marks in our forward fifty while our forward are ten meters behind.

Big loss. They set up so much through him playing off his opponent taking marks then using his skill. Take out their best defender, bring in the 7th best and it's a big difference. The only question is whether they get someone else to play the same role at a diminished level or change their setup with the blokes they do have.
