For those tuning into the first FOXTEL CUP game of the year
at 10.30am Saturday March 31st - Morningside v Launceston on Fox Footy

Here is something interesting to follow along ... The Foxtel Cup 1000

START THE GAME WITH 1000 POINTS

TAKE OFF

10 points - every time the commentary team says the word "AFL"

10 points - every time they say "what a great competition this is" or "what a great stepping stone to the AFL"

10 points - every time they talk about North Melborne or Essendon (the next game up after the match)

20 points - every time they talk about Gold Coast or Crows (The later match at Metricon)

20 points - every time thay talk about their own playing days

20 points - every time they go four possessions without naming a player involved

50 points - every time they talk about other AFL topics instead of calling the ball in play

50 points - every time they interview someone not related to the teams or leagues involved in the Foxtel Cup game

ADD

10 points - Every time they call Morningside the Panthers or Launceston the Blues

10 points - Every time they mention NEAFL or Tasmanian State League

10 Points - every time they mention the winner will play Subiaco or Port Adelaide.
or next weeks game will be Port Adelaide v Subiaco

20 Points - every time there is a crowd shot (must be Morningside or Launceston Supporter)

20 Points - every time they mention that Launceston are the 2011 Tasmanian Champions (d Burnie)
or that Morningside lost the 2011 NEAFL north conf GF to NT Thunder

50 points - every time they profile a player or club showing they have done some actual preparation & research (ie Launceston arethe oldest football club in Tasmania or Morningside lost big to NT Thunder in Alice Springs last week)

WHAT SCORE WILL YOU END UP WITH?

WILL YOU HAVE POINTS LEFT BY THE END OF THE GAME?

Now I can see this catching on with RPH & Life so I know I am digging my own grave but its a bit of fun.

Phil, in these kinds of game, one traditionally takes skolls rather than points. However with your proposed scoring system I expect any players would be comatose by quarter time

Hey whatever takes your fancy :D

But the game is on at 10.30 in the morning, so there may be many punters not even up at that time.

Just make it schooners instead of pints given the time.

I would politely mention that your efforts may be better served by refining your own and your fellow Life-fm commentators performances first ;) ;)

Having watched the first quarter they are much much better than last years effort.

I just found last years effort very disrepsectful to state league football.

This time they have a play by play caller who knows his stuff and they are focussed on the game rather than being bored waiting for the AFL to start.

A great improvement.

And in the first 10 mins of 5RPH's call, we have had wrong calls, uummm....Panther player.....aarrrrr, and a call for SANFL games to start at 12:00, because wait for it, so people can get home in time to watch the Crows play.

The Rooster player marks the ball. The Panther kicks long. Lucky for the commentators, Allan gets plenty of footy.

Fair point .... as I sit here still doing my earnest research for the Glenelg v West game tonight.

Who are all these guys?

Look like Glenelg have changed at least 11, West 6 since they met late last year.

Have always taken feedback from this site on board to try and make for a better coverage so keep it coming.

That said personally, I am only a part timer on radio this year only calling occasional games when Eagles and FOOT-e TIMES SA duties allow.

Fair enough philh. Understand calling players first round wouldn't be easy. Calling points goals is very average though.

No argument there .... Not that I haven't done it from time to time.
