Woodville-West Torrens 2012

Postby Wedgie » Wed Mar 21, 2012 9:34 am

There's been some conjecture on the boards as to how much hype there is exactly down at Wooville but IMHO they continue to go about their business quietly being confident in their own abilities whilst respecting their opponents and especially the Dogs.
Had some losses to the 2 bottom sides during the minor round last year but peaked sensationally in September/October.
They've lost 4 premiership players but have done some pretty nifty recruiting in getting at least 3 players who would be likely to start in the 18. There's a lot of stars in there too. Most are predicting they'll be around the mark again and are rightfully the flag favourites
Can the reigning premiers get a back to back for the first time in their history?

Of our losses Treeby, Rimmington, Tiller and Allmond will be missed the most. The rest were made up from 2nd tier / reserve grade footballers although Geddes was the best of those and I am disappointed to see him go through ongoing injury issues. We have recruited well with the inclusions of Shirley and Eddy who both have AFL experience and Summer will benefit from his short stint with the Swans though he didn't play many games. You then have young Harding who should provide another target up forward and of course C Kane will be a great benefit with his hard at it ball winning exploits. Overall our Ins have covered our outs. I am concerned with our trial form but I guess only time will tell. A top 3 finish at the end of the minor round will give us a double chance and will have us primed at a shot at back 2 back.

Fair few losses this year, not sure how the depth will go this year like the last. Hopefully top 4 finish is still on the cards for the mighty eagles!!

He is very quick and very good at ground level. He left Port for more opportunities at the Eagles....He really only can play on a wing, so he will have to try and push out Jarrad, Toumpas or Knights to get a run in the 1s.

Fair few ins this year including a couple coming back to the club, so the depth will be fine.

I think you may say the Eagles are forward thinking Toumpas will be an out for most of the year with aFL/AIS thing going to South Africa .
So perhaps to cover that loss .
Of course he should be back in time for finals !!

I think I read somewhere he would be available for 13 games plus finals this year. Forward thinking for those other 7 games and 2013 onwards.

I say this with all due respect to Mark McKenzie, because he has been a tremendous player for a number of years, but do any Eagles supporters have concerns about the living in Melbourne playing in Adelaide situation?

He looked out of sorts on Friday night, and I doubt he would have been kept to 7 possessions since he started in the SANFL.

I know its only R1, and everyone is entitled to a stinker every now and then, but i think with his situation he would be under some additional pressure.

I had wondered similarly the other night SIT .. I love watching the bloke play, especially when I'm there as a neutral, but I thought like his teammates he was either closed down quickly or rushed by the incessant attack from Port blokes, which is unusual for him.

Still, it's only round 1 and a few blokes are still off the pace that early, maybe it's just a case of that?

Who is he training with in Melbourne?

I find it difficult to believe that someone who is training remotely either a) on his own or b) with an amatuer club ( as I am pretty certain he would not be training with a VFL club ) would not have to have fitness and form compromised.

Will be interesting to see how he travels through 2012.

He is training with Box Hill as he's working for Hawthorn. I think he gets back to Adelaide to train with the Eagles for the Fri night? Whilst it's not ideal, I think he will handle it ok. Will need to give it a month or so to see how much it effects his performance. It is a valid concern though. Wait and see.
