Central District 2012

Postby Wedgie » Wed Mar 21, 2012 7:14 am

Only occasionally get beaten in Grand Finals this century and when they do they usually turn it around, will they continue the trend?
They appear to be pretty settled with minimal movement in the off season.
Will they be too old and too slow? Will the Gowans lads play their last season so this can be about their 5th last season in a row?
Still short with the bookies and mixed form in the 2 trials so far (one to come this coming weekend against the Bays) with a big loss to Port but a comfortable win over the Roosters.
There's some whispers that Troy Menzel could be playing footy similar to his older brother at Geelong this year, will they continue to bring great players in from their juniors?

I say this with the greatest respect to what the CDFC has achieved over the last decade and a bit, but looking at their reserves side on Friday they looked decidely thin for replacement players if they got injuries - I only saw one Barmby.

In the past you'd look at Centrals reserves side and their would be 5-10 ready made league players running around who could come into their side and perform. Centrals success IMO has been based on the fact their players listed 15-25 are better than any other clubs - inother words they could cover inuries better than any other club.

This year it doesn't appear to be the case.

I still expect to finish top 3 though as when some of their injured players come back (J Gowans, O'Sullivan etc) they will be a stronger side but if they continue to get injuries like last night it will be tougher for them to finish where I expect them too.

PS just to re-affirm I'm not writing them off, I'll save that for the "card" later in the year..... :D ;)
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

The depth isn't as good this year as it previously has been am Bays, but the following players have played League football and will again do so at some stage in 2012 and didn't play Reserves due to injury or otherwise...

Thomas Dunne – ankle – 1 week
Damian Hynes – quadriceps – indefinite
Cameron Milne – shoulder – 12 weeks
Alan Obst – ACL knee – indefinite
Brayden O’Hara – hip – indefinite
Chad O’Sullivan – quadriceps – 3 weeks
Justin Hardy - suspension - 1 week
James Gowans - honeymoon - 1 week
Jason Sutherland - calf - 1 week'
Jay Nash - knee - 2 weeks

Then the likes of Josh Waldhuter, Ben Nason, Luke Barmby, Luke Habel and Adam Cullen played in the 2's and have tasted League football. The quality of the depth may not be as deep as previous years but there are still some quality lads to come in to the League side which of course then strengthens the Reserves and Under 18's with players coming back down.

Roy will have to pull off a huge miracle this year to get the boys into the finals never mind a GF.
Injuries and lost players are going to be hard to cover this season.
How we got to last years GF was a huge achievement.
But if any coach can do it, it's Roy.

Agreed. A huge (probable) out for us is also Ian callinan. We've lost a leading goalscorer in havelberg, and nutta our leading goalscorer in the past.

Yeah bombing to Matty Westoff with 2-3 blokes on him wont help either. Poor bastard had no hope last night, thought he tried hard though.

Sounds like the early prognosis for Andrew Hayes is 4-6 weeks on the sidelines...
