So the Bloods travel down to Noarlunga after some up and down trial game form, while the Panthers have been in reasonable touch over the trial period.
As always, games are won and lost in the middle so the battle between Ryan Willits and Keegan Brooksby could go a long way to determine a winner.
The Panthers seem to have some good forwards now with Wundle and Ainger capable of kicking a winning score so the new look Bloods defence will be tested early.
The battle of the midfields should be a ripper with Chris Schmidt and James Ezard no doubt to go head to head with Nick Liddle and Toby Stribling.
For mine, the Panthers should be too strong on home soil and will kick the season off with a win, albeit in a tightly fought contest...
Panthers by 13-24 points

Cant wait for this one!
So glad the footy is back.
I think South might be a little underprepared with only 2 trails. Alot of people are writing off Westies but I think they will be around the mark in 2012.
With South, Im not really sure how the team will line up as I dont think they have played with the side they will begin with for this game.
South really need to make a stance this round 1. Many people have high expectations of them and there is really no excuse to lose this. We have a great side and with the likely addition of McKernan we should have a "cracking" side.
Wests record at Noarlunga is outstanding but I believe with the night game at 7.10pm......South will win by less than 2 goals.

who ever lines up at FF for South is in for a hard night with Ben Rutten set to play for Westies
and Richard Douglas could line up for South reserves to get some match fitness

Should be a good game, hopefully decent weather and with the Southern Cricket finishing last weekend and the Southern Footy League not kicking off till a week after this game there should be a great crowd down there.
I'm tipping South in a thriller by 1 point.

more than likely "E-man" Irra will line up att FF for South.... Rutten should be able to match his speed over the ground.....

Ben rutten is thought of as slow but the FF in the AFL dont get away from him and he is smart and wouldn't be surprised if Irra is held goal less.

Think you are missing the joke here joker .... Irra lining up at full forward is about as likely as rutten winning the coleman medal

I think if Rutten does line up he will be standing Mckernan or last yrs Ken Farmer medallist Wundke.

West to win by 5 goals

We, in the past, seem to match up well against the Panthers
Last 5 games against South have been 5 victories with three of those at Noarlunga.
2011Win @ Richmond by 76
Win @ Noarlunga by 42
2010Win @ Noarlunga by 27
Win @ Richmond by 34
Win @ Noarlunga by 40

Would have thought that Douglas would play for Glenelg in their trial game if he were to have a run?

We struggle against Westies at Noarlunga and i think we will again

. Crowd numbers should be interesting, given the stand alone game, no local AFL or SFL/GSFL if the average South v West numbers of $2k turn up for this first game of the season then that will reflect poorly on both clubs. If ever these two clubs are going to draw a reasonable crowd this game needs to do it.

Probably 2500 would be realistic.
Blue and White: Is Mckernan eligible. What is the ruling on this?

interesting point Doc.. but Mckernan did not play at all last weekend....one would assume the crows would be looking for him to get some match fitness somewhere.. the same goes with Rutten as well I guess.
