Is All The Eagles Hype Warranted

Yes the Eagles are the reigning premiers and most consider them favourites to go back to back. Considering all the outs, only limited inclusions and some fairly poor trial form with only 1 win. Is all the hype warranted.

I haven't been to any trials so I am looking for comments from people that have seen the pre-season to comment on where we're at.

Post away...

Well according to the Sunday Mail this morning the Eagles didn't win any trials so I guess one was a blessing :)

Trial form wasn't great, doesn't need to be great.

Hopefully the Eagles have got through it injury free and have no pretentions of greatness going into Friday Night.

Eagles play a big improver in the trials Port, travel to Norwood and host the Bulldogs all by the end of April.

We will see at that point.

3 trial wins = 0 premiership points.
0 trial wins = 0 premiership points.

I would think deserved favourites. Trial game form is at best the form of those who play. Like most sides, you never played full teams. Coaches use trial games to test, pressure and use players against opponents to see if they can/will utilise what they have tried when the points are up for grabs.

A very strong contingent of AFL players, many of whom have been with the eagles for some time who will give the club extra depth without having to always rely on them.

Im still very confident that if my dogs have our key players on the park we will have the Eagles measure. While they played alot better than us and deserved their GF win last year, over the whole season we were a fair bit ahead of the pack.

Let the super modern day rivalry continue.

Yeah over the whole season we beat them twice comfortably to their one very tight win unfortunatly theirs was the GF, at least we all know there is daylight between us and the team that came third last year.

But you've got their measure during the minor round.

History tells us the hardest premiership to win is back to back ... number 2. Only super teams do that and more.

I too am oblivious to any hype. Perhaps it's hyperbole that we're encountering??? ;)

I had the feeling that for once every side was just quietly going about their business. Normally you hear some sort of hype from fans and/or media (sometimes even a club!) but it's all been a bit quieter this season. Or I'm just oblivious to it. ;)

Wouldnt say we should be fvaourites .Eagles have been playing games like all clubs .Not in any of the trials including the win (which the sunday mail didnt see) did the Eagles play a full team .
Loss against West no cica no Macca no Hall.

But that was a much better game by the team .

I agree - pound for pound I think the Dogs are still the best team and I was surprised that they aren't favourites despite last year's result.

In my opinion we had our best 21 in that grand final team (excluding maybe Rowntree, but I couldn't choose a player that should have missed out in front of him). Sure we had injuries during the season and needed to regularly use players 22-30 on our list, but I just can't see us having the same fortune 2 years in a row with no/minimal injuries during finals.

Of course the hype is warranted you won the freaking flag.

I'd kill to be in your shoes.

Where is this hype, I don't see it anywhere, not at Woodville or Thebby or on here.

I don't think there's been a "hype" around the Eagles as such, but a high rating in all circles for sure, and it is most definitely warranted.

Regardless of how the season eventually pans out, right here and now they look to have an edge in cattle (on everyone) and experience (on all bar the Dogs) to be the eventual premiers.

As we know however, these things don't always stick to the script.
