But didn't he have the full support of the Board?

And while I think Neil Rawlings has done a stellar job in trying times for the PAFC, this move is not unexpected in my opinion.

As a single integrated entity, do we really need the expense of 2 CEOs? He's now probably too highly qualified for the position in the ONE CLUB.

Think the job would be too big for Keith to do on his own. Maybe the replacement could be defined as Magpies Operations Manager and they report to The CEO.

I heard Bill Leane said he'd do a review for Keith Thomas for $100,000

MAGPIES GENERAL MANAGER STEPS DOWN

The Port Adelaide Football Club advises that SANFL general manager Neil Rawlings has resigned to take up a new employment opportunity that will see him finish up at Alberton on Friday 30 March.

Rawlings has been General Manager/CEO of the Magpies since August 2010 and prior to that was an assistant coach at both junior and senior level going back to 2005. His leadership of the football club and commitment has been outstanding during an 18-month period that has been among the most challenging but significant times in Port Adelaide’s history, capped by the success of the One PAFC merger.

Rawlings commented: “I am very proud of what we have achieved over the past 18 months and whilst this has been a very difficult decision for me personally, I know that this is the right time for me and the club. I have a great opportunity to keep developing professionally whilst at the same time I am looking forward to regaining some balance with the time I will be able to commit to my family. I have absolutely loved every minute of my time in the role and can’t speak highly enough about the people we have at this club. I am really looking forward to watching our playing group continue to improve in 2012 and am genuinely excited about what this group of players can achieve.”

“I would like to thank the football club for providing me with the opportunity to be the General Manager of the Magpies, and whilst it has been challenging it has been hugely rewarding. I am a Port Adelaide person through and through and I feel honoured to have had that opportunity. I would also like to sincerely thank all of the sponsors and members for their support of the club over the last couple of years and for me personally.”

Port Adelaide Football Club CEO Keith Thomas thanked Neil for his contribution to the club. “I would like to thank Neil for his commitment to Port Adelaide in what has been undoubtedly a critical period. There have been many people who have worked extremely hard to bring the club back together and Neil has played has been instrumental in maintaining stability and progress with the Magpies through this time.”Rawlings’ resignation comes with the planning and preparation for the 2012 SANFL season almost complete, with the playing and coaching staff secured for the year ahead.

Rawlings will remain the role through until 30 March, providing the club with plenty of time to ensure a smooth transition and handover to his successor.

Give it a rest Topsy.

From what I know of the integration of the Admin side of the club, Neil Rawlings is way over-qualified for the role. Keeping him on would be wasting $$ at a club using AFL administrative resources.
