Glenelg AGM - Metcalfe responds

Went along to the Glenelg AGM tonight, key points -

> Profit up $100k for the year
> We are getting lights apparently!
> 7k-8k forecast for Round 1
> Looking to challenge Norwood as the biggest home (& away) crowd puller
> Board to remain essentially the same
> Massie gave a very positive address to the members

Metcalfe addressed the Mickan departure and gave more details about it that hadnt been made public previously. Concerns were raised with Mickan early in the preseason around 3 factors - Leadership, Development and Communication, also stressed he was not sacked based on the W/L record of the 2011 season.

Specifically he mentioned players getting leave passes from training, senior player commitment, fitness levels, attitudes and leadership from the coach was all "questionable". This was all discussed with Mickan at the time and before his departure with meetings that included Mickan, Football Mgr, Football Director, CEO and President around the 3 areas above. He was on notice.

Said in hindsight maybe the decision should have been made after 2010 season.

Also spoke of Ben Kane and that while he was a required player he did not wish to conform to the contract that was offered to him, made it sound like it wasnt a financial decision, moreso commitment.

Thanked the players that have left but also noted that while they have been good players for the club they havent given us the ultimate prize and it was time to move on with a new group.

If fitness levels was a contributing factor to Mickan getting the bullet.. maybe the GFC fitness guru needs a rocket! ;)

Did he mention what the GFC would be doing in terms of fixing the infrastructure of the oval to handle those capacity crowds as they do at the Parade? What amount financially are they putting into the ground to install new ladies toilets and so on?

Don't know about the ladies facilities, but Glenelg Oval remains the only venue where you can take a p1ss whilst still watching the game. At Norwood one has to enter an underground subway... and God help you in you need to do a "number 2" :D

Dont think that has been an issue in the past when we have had up 11k there in recent years.

The pickets look magnificent and the oval is looking as good as it ever has now it has had a year to settle.

So, are they going to have an effect on oval sponsorship once footy starts up or will there be banner like signs going up once the season starts?

Is this another one of your miss-informed comments a la the SANFL metro boundaries??

Lets look at this objectively: Glenelg have mens and womens toilets in the NE corner next to the practice pitches, at the Williams st entrence behind the scoreboard, behind Snouts bar and the BBQ stand in the SW corner and in the NW corner behind the canteen. There are also three sets of mens and womens toilets within the club (two downstairs North and South end of the club rooms, and one upstairs in the function centre) which any patron can use on match days. Red coats provide passes into and out of the club.

Lets look at Noarlunga - mens and womens toilets on the outerside centre wing, toilets on the NW hill and toilets by the entrance to the ground next to the clubrooms. They also have toilets within the club unsure how many but I'd say at lest two sets upstairs and downstairs.

Based on that, one club needs to look at its facilities for patrons and it ain't Glenelg.

Go ask Ben Kane and Luke Panozzo if you're interested ... and I'm not your mate.

The Glenelg Board made a decision and decided at the time to not create a media circus ... believe it or not Rubbers is still very respected by the club, and his contribution should be rated on the 6 years he was there, not focusing on what happened at the end.

Any success the club has had during his time there and in the short-mid future across all grades can rightly be attributed significantly to his efforts.

Always have a laugh at your shallow posts when logic and general footy knowledge has you stumped.

It's common we know.

Surprising a pic post ,happens when you have no logic or value to add. Do you ever add to the site footy wise ?It's a hypothetical so dont bore us with a picture or whatever you do .

Back to the topic ,Metcalf responded but did he say that when Mickan was sacked ?

the question has been answered ... if you were so keen to know you could have told me and I would have asked Gary at the AGM for you.

My previous post deleted . Bit of a boys club hey?

You never answredd my question but I didn't expect a logical knowledgeable answer from you . Good for you going to the AGM , obviously for social contact certainly would not have had anything to do with footy.

No issue with Mickan, just interested why these reasons for his ruthless sacking are now public but were not 6 months ago.
