As announced in the local:
Legs dare to be different
DRINKERS aged 18-35 would have their own bar under a Redlegs’ vision to attract younger fans.
Norwood Football Club chief executive officer Bill Leane said the club was considering “a young professionals bar” to boost membership.
“We have to dare to be different,” Mr Leane said.
Other ideas to enhance match-day entertainment were being discussed but he would not elaborate.
Mr Leane has targeted home crowds of 10,000 and increasing membership from 3500 to 4500.
“On-field success is we continue to develop players to go into the AFL system and get drafted, we have good success in our juniors and… we can look at the Norwood Football Club family and say we’re well connected and there’s a lot of joy,” he said.
Mr Leane aims to meet with Norwood, Payneham & St Peters Council to discuss his vision.
Only problem is that this is illegal. They may wish to perhaps target an age group via marketing.
Rest is very positive and certainly ambitious.

Think it's legal to have a membership category for that age group .. And then you just run events for that particular membership category only?

Not sure but from my rudimentary knowldge of age discrimination, for adults there can be a minimum age but not a maximum. Someone will know.
Anywho, Leane is apparantly a smart cookie (what would you expect from an old Southee) and one way or another expect something to happen. I would have thought Coopers Hill would be the place for all those young professionals. Maybe Sams disco is on the way back.

I am confused, how could sending your players to the AFL make you happy? Ísn't the sole reason that Norwood is in The SANFL is to win premierships? I would think the only SANFL club that would be happy to do this would be Port!

If Kris Grant came out and said that i would almost consider not renewing my membership.
SANFL clubs are there to win SANFL premierships! NUMBER 1 priority no exceptions, no excuses, nothing.

I think clubs see AFL drafting of their players as a sign that their junior development programs are working well rather than it ever being a priority over an SANFL premiership. Not every junior you develop goes to the AFL and a lot of the draftees end up back in the SANFL. But if your program is good enough to produce AFL quality players then it means you should be producing very good SANFL players too.

From our perspective, I think the fact that we don't have the dollars to automatically secure players means we need to find other selling points as part of an overall package - Regularly having players drafted can help in negotiations with new recruits and also allows to have an excellent strikerate with players falling out of the AFL system.
On both fronts it could secure us players that money alone couldn't bring in.
