After what the Glenelg CEO said about Centrals supporters earlier this year, it's somewhat ironic that Centrals are playing Glenelg at Gliderol Stadium twice this year and they play at Elizabeth under lights - I wonder if Glenelg will forfeit that game

It might be in their best interest - forfeits only count as 10 goal losses correct?

As mentioned elsewhere... STUPID FIRST ROUND WTF???
From a Sturt perspective-
Sturt with 2 byes in the first 4 rounds.
3 byes in the first 11 rounds.
Only play Port twice, once in R2 (first game for Sturt) and R24
Best thing from the draw is that they've dumped the stupid stupid curtain raisers!!! \:D/

The Double-headers are not going to work so long as the AwFuL insists on an hour between games.

Will be doom and gloom for the Foxtel Cup with a 6 hour gap between some of the games !!!

Looks pretty good at first glance, Eagles vs Port to open the season is much better than a stupid curtain raiser at Football Park before the Cows or the Smears. Think Thebarton will get a very good crowd to open it up, likely much higher than it would be if played at Woodville or Alberton giving the clubs the chance to keep that momentum going.

Good Friday at 5pm is an interesting one,

Central seem to be keen on the twilight games and i suspect that will be pretty successful for the club

Plenty of night games early and late in the season which statistically appears to work, think Glenelg Oval will be packed several times over for the fixtures there.

The only grizzle that I have is why the SANFL would only programme the one game at Thebarton for a night fixture if the lights are now available to them? Cue the Spelly Stats but I am sure its been proven over and over on this forum that night matches see a significant improvement in crowd numbers and home match attendance for the club. Woodville on a Sat/Sun Arvo is never going to bring in the numbers that Thebarton on a Fri / Sat night will do for the club. Despite their success, WWT seem to struggle with home match attendances on the Afternoon timeslots, Also in respect to North Adelaide and Sturt, its apparent that as the SANFL moves forward to embracing night footy that having at least a couple of games at a night venue give the club the same increases. One would think that moving a home game to Thebarton against the Eagles or anyone else for that matter would be investing in the future of the club and giving its supporters the same capacity to support the club in night / twilight home matches.

Round 1 traditionally one of the big crowd pullers ...... 5 byes !!!!!!!!!1 Nice on Centurion !
The SANFL have lost the plot and should be cleaned out .... just AFL boot lickers now. Get some people in there with guts.

I'm just curious of one thing with the season opener fixtured for the night game at Thebby. Are the lights getting an upgrade there (or have they already been upgraded?) because I remember a 'twilight / night' 6 quarter trial game between Central and the Eagles at Thebby a couple of years ago and the players were complaining about the lack of light then and it was very hard to see the play late in the 6th quarter on the outer side.

I know gridiron is currently being played at Thebby at the moment, anyone been there to be able to comment?

Centrals don't play any twilight games. At home Centrals have 3 night games, 6 days games and 1 TBA.

And will the council lock the gates during the game as well - was a long walk to get back to my car after that game, despite it being parked across the road

As one eagles fan who watches pre pre season footy at thebbie .No the lights arent ready .They appear to be working on them each week I attend training or at least they appear to be doing something to the concrete along the fence line in 4 spots .
My question to the Eagles and I will ask those high up. Will the eagles unveil the flag twice once at thebby and once at unleash !!

As far as I know and I may well be wrong its the high school who locks the gates . I think they use that area for parking during school hours .

Seems quite good from a South point of view. Play the Bays, West, North and Sturt three times which on face value is favourable.

7 nights games with 6 on Fridays.

Agree about Round 1. Very drawn out season overall.

SANFl games are only 4 quarters at a guess.

Foxtel Cup

WAFL have also launched their fixture, have similar issues with Foxtel Cup, 9 teams and a state game and unconfirmed ABC TV coverage.

They start March 17 BUT finish Sept 23.

As for the SANFL, personally I'm very excited about the Eagles early home draw
- Kick off SANFL season with stand alone Friday night game at Thebe against out best drawing opponents Port
- Rd 4 v Glenelg, our first 2012 game at Woodville (Unleash Solar) to unveil the flag during National Youth Week.
- Anzac Day v Central at Unleash Solar Oval, Woodville for the 1st time.

I'm going to be very busy the next four months ensuring the club makes the most of these three opportunities.

BTW - Sojurner re Eagle crowds ... like the Panthers it has been consistent and steady (if not spectacular) growth.
Eagles home figures have been up 27% over the past 3 years, best since 2004.
What we have not had is a "marquee" match that brings in a big crowd 4,000 plus.
Well in 2012 we have two if not three of these to further boost our numbers and I hopw we achieve the target of the best home crowds since Power entered the AFL.
If the Thebarton night games proves successful then I am sure it would not be the last.

you will have your work cut out v glenelg

the optimism with a few of us bay fans at the moment is a tad low for next season at present
