Obviously the Rookie Draft and Pre-Season Draft still to come, but so far there are 8 new players that will be in the SANFL next year needing a home. So far we have:

Sam Kerridge from Mildura drafted by the Crows at pick 27 - 188cm & 86kg midfielder

Brendan Ah Chee from South Fremantle selected by the Power at pick 45 - 188cm & 82kg forward

Nathan Blee from East Perth recruited to Port Adelaide Power at pick 51 - 191cm & 84kg defender

Brad Crouch from North Ballarat (via GWS) to Adelaide Crows - 184cm & 83kg midfielder/forward

Josh Jenkins from Essendon Rookie List to Adelaide Crows - 199cm & 103kg ruckman/forward

Tom Lynch from St. Kilda to Adelaide Crows - 192cm & 87kg forward

Ben Dowdell from US College Basketball to Adelaide Crows as 'Alternative Talent Rule' - 201cm & 98kg ruckman/forward

Brent Renouf from Hawthorn to Port Power - 200cm & 98kg ruckman

So unless I have missed someone, that is 8 so far, before the Rookie and Pre-Season Draft on Tuesday December 13th and only need 1 more new faces to SANFL for the Eagles to have a pick as well.

Norwood would hope one of those 3 ruckman/forwards fall too them, with the loss of Rowe and Doyle. cant see jenkins or dowdell playing much AFL. Renouf will see zero time in the SANFL you would think with the powers lack of quality big men.

If Jenkins doesn't play much AFL, who is Adelaide's 2nd ruckman?

McKernan, Tippett, Ormond-Allen? ;)

Exactly. Mckernan's not an AFL ruckman (yet) and Tippet seems to be thought of more as a forward.

If you dont't provide any players to the draft you should not be able to have a pick in the mini draft.
Totally unfair that clubs not providing players should get anything. Clubs should have some small compensation for losing players to the draft and be rewarded not penalised for this.

Can this be backdated 10 years.

Clubs get money if players get drafted. Isn't that their reward?

Norwood didn't receive a cent from the Dockers for drafting Nick Lower, for instance, despite the fact that we turned him into a decent footballer again.

Once a player's been on an AFL list the state league club doesn't receive anything if that player is then re-drafted.

An that, my AFL loving quisling friends, is a flat out disgrace.

Think you're off the mark there SDK, can understand where you're coming from and as frustrating as it is to lose players, part of the clubs agenda has to be to provide a grounding for our players to play at the highest level possible.

For years we hardly had a yelp in the drafts and I think the last few years with what we've provided through the draft may influence the decision of a player choosing Norwood to play at the highest level outside the AFL with the view to having a future opportunity.

At least we have a pick this year ;)

Apart from his services for the time he's out of the AFL system of course.

I'm not just talking about Norwood.
Look at Glenelg this year .... Westies for many years...... Eagles and so on.

The AFL draft itself is a flat out disgrace.

Designed to give a leg-up to sub-average Victorian clubs which would not be competitive in a competition which either A) was open slather, or B) aligned the talent in each state with the clubs in the that same state.

To support the AFL is to accept this practice.

Sturt might take Jenkins so think the legs will miss out on him

What about Crouch, guaranteed to have him in your side for the whole season as well?

Hold your horses there SDK...

There is still the Pre-Season and Rookie Draft and Central, South and North are ALL still very good chances of having at least 1 player from their respective clubs picked up.

Remember Port had Milera taken by the Saints and Westies lost Morris to Richmond earlier in the pre-draft period.

Fair point Phil but the amount of Mini draft picks to a club should be proportionate to the number of players taken from that club in the AFL drafts.
I remember several years ago Centrals lost Crows listed players Ingerson , McKinnon and I think Vardy. Sturt once again provided nothing and had first pick in the draft....WRONG !!!!!!!!!!!!
Something similar happened with North as well.
What you lose should in some way be compenated for apart from money. Replace what you take !

I also believe the AFL club who drafts a palyer should have some say in which club that player goes to.
For example if Taylor Walker was available to Sturt whilst they had Brant Chambers playing at FF kick a hundred goals what point would it be to allow Sturt to take Taylor Walker ? Just a hypothetical examole but you get my point.
A young ruckman sent to a club like Norwood who is short on good ruckmen ( and has a strong history of developing ruckmen ) would have more opportunity to develop than going to Eagles or Centrals who have strong rucks. Again just an example.
