Mature aged SANFL players who may get drafted

Postby panthers 2008 » Thu Oct 20, 2011 5:44 pm

Which mature age players are the best chance of getting picked up by an AFL club.
When I say mature I'm thinking anyone from the age of 20 and above.
I have seen plenty of SANFL games this season and not all invloving South so I think I have a reasonable idea of players who in my opinion could make an impact at the next level. Here are a few that I think are well worthy.
In no particular order

1. Lee Spurr
2. James Allan
3. Adam Grocke
4. Toby Stribling (another shot)
5. Scott Lewis
6. Darren Pfieffer( another shot)
7. Brady Dawe
8. Joel Cross
9. Nick Liddle
10.Ryan Willits ( another shot)
11 Matt Goldsworthy
12.Luke Harder
13.Mark Dolling
14.Steven Summerton
15.Luke Habel
16.Eddie Sansbury (another shot)
17.Daniel Havelberg ( if his hamstrings were to improve)
18.Luke Crane

I think Scott Lewis could be a real find if somone were to take the punt. He has a great kick on him and finds plenty of the ball. He would find a whole new level of fitness at AFL level and would improve out of sight.
Lets see if i'm correct.Time will tell.

Whilst I agree Eddie wont get another chance at AFL level, the guy has just won the Best & Fairest for Central so maybe a couple of clubs migth discuss him as a possibility?

Not sure that was the question Big Phella, no need to be so defensive

I'd almost call the hawks to pick up Spurr. Just love the way he goes about it.

Summerton has the ability but may be a bit light?

Apart from Spurr I think the best chances are Dawe and Pfeiffer (although both perhaps as rookies).

I'd be amazed if Dawe was drafted .. Has some skill & ability, but lacks in many area's you'd want from a big man, especially at AFL level.

Yeah fair point, I guess I was going on a bit of hype mid way through the year when he kicked a bag of goals. Maybe a late rookie chance but if there are some issues there I agree probably won't happen.

Spurr and Pfeiffer would be the best chances IMHO. Not many others likely to be too seriously looked at from what I've seen. Havelberg would have already been drafted if his body was sound, but the guy struggled to even get on the park for half a season. With him looking likely to move on from SANFL I think those 'strings might win their battle. At his best is probably more valuable than many forwards running around in the AFL. But if you can't get on the park you can't get too many kicks.

Yes, a lot of people did. He kicked 4 at CHF in an easy win at Noarlunga and suddenly he was the next Wayne Carey. The lad is athletic, good leap, and works his ring off. You can never question the effort. However, a lot of times he flies for marks he is off balance and has no real chance of grabbing them. Very good on the ground for a gangling big guy.

For mine, he's a ruckman who needs a few extra pounds, not a CHF. The funny thing with Norwood this year is we stacked our forward line with talls, and then went in short and indirect. Work that one out.

I know exactly where this hype comes from, the coach. All he seems to do is want to sell off our players to the AFL. The moment anyone has a good game, you can be assured there will be something written about him suggesting AFL clubs should look at him. Come on Bass, you do the coaching and let the AFL scouts do the recruiting.

Harder has had a few clubs after him..should get picked up late, or rookie with the power(worst case)

Really impressed with what I have seen of this lad, definitely would not be out of place in the AFL.

Would love to have him at Oval Avenue.

If that is less defensive, I wish I had seen the unedited version.
