Preliminary Final - Norwood vs Eagles - AAMI Sun 2/10 3:10pm

Postby Aerie » Mon Sep 26, 2011 4:13 pm

So these two sides meet again on Preliminary Final day for the 2nd year in a row to earn the chance to play Central in the 2011 SANFL Grand Final.

It was a classic match last year with Norwood coming from behind to snatch victory with the last kick of the day.

Norwood have had the wood over the Eagles in finals encounters, with the only major round victory coming for the Eagles in the 1993 GF.

Just a fortnight ago Norwood blitzed the Eagles in the Qualifying Final throwing major doubt through the Eagles camp. A week is a long time in football with the Eagles back after thumping South and Norwood unable to crack the toughest nut of all in Central District and losing some key players to injury along the way. All of a sudden momentum is with the Eagles.

But how can things change so much in 2 weeks to give Eagles supporters hope that they can topple the Redlegs?

PS. To ensure you don't rock up at half time, remember to change your clock forward one hour for daylight savings!

Perhaps? But you could say if we're missing Petrenko and Rowntree that is the equivalent of Norwood missing Campbell and Young.

Some amendments Godden made on the weekend included the forwards setting up a little bit deeper and obviously having Thompson, Rimington and Lane in there added something different.

The Eagles need to be brave and move the ball quickly in to the forward line. Hopefully Grocke having a couple of weeks of footy under his belt will make him better for it and Staple won't have Young all over him this time neither.

Do you put McKenzie on Shenton, as Central used Thomas, or is it really just up to which Shenton turns up on the day? The one that could do no wrong against the Eagles or the one that couldn't hold a mark against Central?

As Clarkson put it the other day, whichever side is tough enough for long enough should win. Both are pretty well coached and structured at times and play a similar way - which looks bloody awful when they're losing.

I would probs put Greiger or Day on Shenton. I don't think I'd have Macca on him.

Tiller struggled on Ainger yesterday. I think maybe he's not tall enough 4 that role, even though Paul Thomas isn't that tall either.

The winner gets the booby prize of humiliation on GF day.
Norwood wont go down without a fight, id expect a very hard and physical low scoring game especially with the expected wet weather. Just dont know if our battered side will be able to get through.
What is the lowest ever prelim final crowd? Id expect to give it a shake this weekend

In 2005, port magpies played the Eags @ Adelaide in very poor wet, windy conditions and the crowd was 5000ish which considering the attrocious conditions wasn't too bad. Eagles won easily in the end by 10 goals IIRC.

Would hope at least 8 - 10000 turned up on Sunday.
