Grand Final Pre Game Event - What do you want to see / hear?

Hi everyone,

Early planning is underway for Life FM's Grand Final Day pre-game show

Hopefully it will be another outside broadcast at AAMI Stadium with Doug Oakley to host and the whole LifeFM team involved.

Starting at 12pm we will have about two and a half hours before focus fully switches to the commentary booth and the pre game entertainment.

Listener input is very important to our coverage so my question is two fold.

What would you like us to put on air for the show?

and what would you like us to have happening at the outside broadcast?

Cheers
PhilH

Ugh, no thanks. Definitely not random fans, maybe some who actually might have something constructive to say might happen to be interesting.

key up interviews with fans of both teams who are here on sa footy

the year that was - which i assume is part of the rundown anyway

perhaps an safooty tug of war between fans at the outside broadcast or handball comp etc

perhaps get a folder for petitions for us fans to sign who dont have facebook or the like to try and save the SANFL from disappearing from LIFE and also the ABC - if the ABC havent made their decision by that stage

part of the year that was - could be interview a person from each club to get their perspective on the season and issues from within that club that may or may not have been well publicised

The idea is great, but I doubt we'd get too much more than cliched responses from anyone particularly close. Those missing out disappointed and talking up next year, those who got knocked out in finals talking about "something to build on" and the actual teams saying it's been a good year but it'll ultimately be a success based on the result of the game.

More interested in knowing if the commentary will have an effects mic thingy or if it will be like Round 1 with the deathly background silence.

Hi Jas .... given there is no AFL game and hence no AFL radio to kick SANFL radio out of their commentary booth no one will be forced to commentate out of the kitchen / break out room this time.

We have used an effect mic in the past

talk to past champions of both participating clubs, get a player/coach from every other team to give a tip & reason for the tip, give FREQUENT updated scores from the reserves grand final & if close call the last 5 minutes

Thanks for that Phil. Those first 2 rounds at AAMI and AO were pretty hellish knowing it was all going on but not being able to hear it. Almost worse than no coverage at all.

PH, as someone who frequents the northern bar prior to the game, I can tell you the atmosphere is electric.
If you can get a reporter with a mic/phone down into the bowels of the stadium, it'd make great listening.
That is all, of course, presuming the Dogs make it.

Previous grand final players - winners and losers, telling us about the build up to the day - even the week itself. Coaches who can tell us likewise. For me, the radio builds the tension and excitement of the day like no other medium - even though my team wont be anywhere near the game itself for good reason ;-)

I agree with this entirely. Oh, an interview with Amber Joy Poulton (she is going to sing the National Anthem) would be great too.. huge country music fan here! *grins*

I don't usually listen to it but have a few times and there is more of a build up to the game than you get on TV. I would like to see the TV have more of a lead in but that's unlikely.

A pre recorded interview of coaches and captains.
Interview the Magarey Medalist
Get amongst the fans and supporter groups
A tipping comp before the game for listeners & those you interview at the game
Maybe little snippets of past Grand Finals
Continuous updates of the ressies
What time does it finish ?maybe take some callers for 30 mins after ?

We did 5 of those 7 things last year HOORAY PUNT but I do like your suggestion of an interview with the Magarey Medalist.

Probably not enough time post game for the talk back as we try and get the Premiership Medallion presentation to air then it has to be wrapped up by about 6pm from memory.

I'll hopefully be providing the regualr score updates from the reserves throughout the day and will possibly call the last 5 or 10 minutes live as well if time permits.
