You could tell in the first few minutes of the 3rd quarter the Eagles intensity had disappeared and that 3rd quarter was hopeless. A few late goals made the scoreline look better for the Eagles, but make no mistake, when the game is on the line, the Eagles are miles behind. That has absolutely nothing to do with talent neither - which is the most disappointing thing.

Season on the line against Glenelg next week.

Wow what a game of two halves can someone give me the free stats for the FIRST Half must of been at least 23 to 5 the Eagles way all the ticky touch frees went against Central but however i must admit the Eagles played in front in this half but still a disgracefull display by the umps by half time both teams 10 out of 10 umps 3 out of 10.

I'm just going to look for the rule that says that the free kick stats must be equal.

A game of two halves. First half it was all the Eagles (including the frees), second half it was all the Dogs (including the frees). The difference was the Dogs pretty much unstoppable in the third/early last quarter when they slammed home 9 unanswered goals. Great to see so many of Centrals younger players step up and play fantastic today. In particular Hannath was outstanding in ruck (and IMO has well and truly overtaken Milne as no.2 ruck man), and Schiller, another outstanding game (including an inspirational tackle causing a turnover and starting that 9 goal run), to name just two.

A couple of late junk time goals to the Eagles brought some respectability on the scoreboard, which would have made the game interesting if it wasn't for an absolute piece of stupidity by an Eagles player - Eagles had a free 5 metres out from Centrals goal when an off the ball incident in front of the Fox Green Stand saw the free reversed and the sealer kicked by Sutherland.

All up, a good solid win with some good improving signs of improvement from Centrals as they gear up for another finals campaign.

The umpiring was appalling but it evened out in the end. The first half it was the Eagles with an armchair ride, the second half it was Centrals with the armchair ride. It's not so much the frees have to be equal but be consistent is all I ask. Today's performance by the men in white was pretty shite.

Dogs were just horrible in the first quarter, turned it over, gave up cheap free kicks due to frustration and the Eagles took toll. Second quarter the contest was evened up but then after half time the dogs in 45 minutes mowed down the Eagles. Things started to click into place well enough due somewhat to Hannath in the ruck, Callinan and Jenner showing some class and Matt Westhoff getting some influence around half forward. Thomas probably had just about his worst half for years but came back and showed some toughness and tackled with some ferocity. From there, Hayes and Sutherland got some ball up near the goals and it was all over. In the end, a fairly comfortable win that looked far from likely at 1/4 time.

Not a good sign for the Eagles, being unable to turn around something like that. McKenzie was good around half back (so he should have in the first half though the way we butchered the ball there) but no run and slow play might have won games in 1965 but not in the current era. Guys like Jarrod and Lewis who do that so well when they're on need to get more consistent and get more mates. 2 blokes can't make a midfield damaging because they will get closed down (as happened today), the other 8-10 blokes who rotate through all need to work towards that and I felt that was what hurt the Eagles. All in all, the Eagles had a dangerous looking forward line in the first half but if Grocke is limited to wrestling a guy like Hardy he won't get many and the number of times the ball was sat on a leading forward for Templeton to run and jump at the ball time after time (quiet tip, he's an ex basketballer so running and leaping at a target is likely to be his strength). Running the ball and attacking isn't something only a few blokes can do, have a look at the dogs, no matter who it is when they get the ball they look to attack and play on because it's the only way to give your forwards enough chances to win the ball. If the Eagles can get that into their game they'll be a threat. If not, they'll be watching the GF again.

Very few times the umpires called something that wasn't there. If anything there could have been more paid with a few that looked close to in the back or hanging on going uncalled. But tackling blokes without the ball, tackling around the neck and pushing blokes with both hands in the middle of their back have been the rules for quite some time now.

Hey Bloods I did not say they should be equal out i asked the question what was the free count at half time ???? all footy followers know that by full time the frees even out so pardon the pun but it seemed the Eagles were given a FREE ride in the first half !!! So can some one in the stats department give us the frigging freeeeeeeeeeee count up until half time simple question is it not.

At one stage it was 20-8 the Eagles way before it finished 33-20 the Eagles way

Just shows the run the Dogs got with them in the second half wasn't as good as the dream run the Eagles got in the first and the three men in white today should be embarrassed by their performance today.

wow dont know what to make of todays home, beat the third placed side on their home deck only playing less than 30 minutes of good football.

Defence looked alot better though with Reichart out the side. All we need now is for Gunston or Henderson to be available and Hayes can go back to defence.

Pumpa looked dangerous every time the ball came inside 50 to him, this could be a ploy Lairdy will look to use in the finals.

What about Westhoff, his first half was absolutly terrible soft heartless football (he wasnt the only one) his second half was fairly good, imho he didnt do enough though to prove he could be the man come finals.

Good to see Hayes, Thommo and Boyd get through another game they will only be better for another run.

Also shout out to the Eagles fan who had a spare ticket and offered it to myself when entering the ground today, appreciated it got the misses in for free GOOD STUFF!!!!

The money on Hangerbird was right he didnt play, but yeah Calligan is now available come finals provided Crows approval.

Great win today. I think the eagles lost it when they started to slow the ball down in the second half. They really hurt us on the rebound in the first half. We wasted a lot of forward attacks by bombing it up to either Boyd, or o'sullivan on three taller guys. Fantastic ball movement in the third quarter. Some great contests. Not sure why the eagles player got the free when there was the big collision in front of their goal. A lot of courage shown by all.
A pretty fast paced game. The umps were woeful. Hayes report should be dropped, a waste of petrol to go to the tribunal. No idea who would have got the votes. Great tackle by Schiller. Great mark by barmby, backing into traffic.
Again we lost most stats, but seem to use it less possession wise, per goal,

No mate was told the ins and outs today by the member of the Eagles cheersquad with the real squeaky voice. Calligan was in and Hangerbird was out, his exact words, didnt stop laughing until half time of the league game.

I think his still waiting for the Eagles to hit another nail in the coffin.

The only positive out of todays umpiring performance was that none of them will feature in September/October, disgraceful.

Glad to get the win. Our first half was terrible. For a moment there I thought we were going to get smashed. Not sure what happened at half time but Centrals came out a different team.

The umpiring was a disgrace. The Hayes report was an absolute joke.

No injuries from the game I hope!
