they mentioned this on a sports show recently, not sure which one, and the local rugby that is shown in syd-bris might get the flick and if that goes the other states will follow

that's true but one day head office (sydney) will cut it.....remember the midweek replays on ABC2, that lasted one year despite the protests......if/when it happens it'll be a sad day

The sad part would be losing the best football coverage around
The ABC SANFL show is miles ahead of ANY other football coverage in Australia
The ABC crew are intelliGENT, call the games extremely well , add thier brand of humour

It will be a very very very very very very very very sad day if Neil, Chris, Michael, Soders and the gang dont continue

At this rate there will be more Australian shows on SBS than the ABC.

Is there anywhere we can get numbers and figures on how many people watch the weekly telecast, personally i wouldnt think there would be a whole lot.

From this link, it looks like the GF last year managed 99,000.
I think the weekly might be around 30,000 but that's a guess.

Would be a big loss to lose SANFL to TV screens.

And can we keep this thread at least remotely on track!

Wondering if the ABC would pay the SANFL for rights to Broadcast and if this contributes much to the costs they incur?

Logic would suggest they don't and that the bulk of their costs would be for the production/telecast itself.

I was thinking it might be in the SANFL's interest to try and help out with some of these costs to help save the coverage but I guess Aunty's decision will probably be a national one affecting all states.

The Goodies built a pirate RADIO station and Post Office ya nong!

PS Any chance they can scrap the SANFL but show the Rugby instead? Would love to be watching Phil Waugh and some other Wallabies currently running around club rugby in Sydney! :D

Attracting important corporate sponsorship will also be impacted with the loss of live telecasts, another important income stream for SANFL clubs under threat. TV exposure is a vital media ingredient that allows the clubs and the SANFL to promote its product and its sponsors without it the slippery slope to oblivion is well underway.

If the ABC is serious about axing the broadcast the only way it will consider changing it’s mind is if there is sufficient public outcry against it's disgraceful proposal...and that means as many SANFL supporters emailing or voicing their protests to the ABC as possible...circulating a petition would be another option.....if you want to see your local footy survive now is the time to speak up !

it would have to be a national outcry from those in the other states as well

or ch 7 can take it on and show it on one of the other stations they have
