Fantastic news for Redlegs fans and the SANFL in general, I think it is great having a guy like Bass involved in our wonderful competition.

Nathan Bassett will coach the Norwood Football Club in 2012.

The club is pleased to confirm that Nathan will be at the club next season and see out his three year contract in full. Both parties see this as the most beneficial outcome and they will continue to work to the original plan of working together for three years and achieve what it had set out to do.

Chief Executive Officer Dominic Shepley said

“This is a true indication of the individual that is Nathan Bassett. With a lot of movement about to take place in football he has looked at what is best for the club and for himself and his family.”

“We are delighted that he will see out his contract to the end of 2012 and therefore continue with the work and significant improvement at our club.”

Nathan Bassett is a former Norwood and Adelaide Football Club player and has coached the Redlegs since 2010.

“There is still plenty to do at Norwood. I am looking forward to continuing my work here and I want to keep developing myself, the players and the club. We need to build our football club and its resources to make us the best club that we can be”. Nathan Bassett said.

The Norwood Football Club has a bye this weekend before taking on West Adelaide at Coopers Stadium next Friday August 12th.

Sen-bloody-sational!!!
Good to see someone with some integrity.
Sure, he will coach AFL at some stage, but honoring his 3 year contract, which he would have had a get out clasue in no doubt, shows real character.

Not suprising though, he is from Norwood

Yes, I was discussing this with other Norwood people on the weekend. I was sure in my mind that Bass would honour what he set out to do. He said at the time he would need at least 3 years coaching Norwood before even considering an AFL job.

One thing you can always rely upon from Bass is an honest opinion, which makes me wonder how he'd handle the AFL where telling lies is a second language.

Not sure why a press release was required to let us know a guy under contract is going to see it out? :?

Maybe the world we live in these days.

BTW BP I think it's "great" also.... ;)

I think the answer is pretty obvious Dutchy - but nonetheless I'll give you my take on it. The club has been almost besieged by the media on Nathan's coaching future, particularly in the wake of Neil Craig's departure. Constant speculation about when Bass will move in to AFL ranks is an undesirable distraction from the job at hand. By making this announcement now, it relieves Bass and the Club of constantly being asked the same questions over and over and allows everyone to go about their core business. Now all that's left is to resolve the "Keith Thomas to Port Power" speculation.

Bassett would only need to tell one media outlet he isnt interested in the job, simple.

Better to tell them all at the same time.

That's because the individual media outlets would otherwise all be demanding that their journos get their own grab on the issue. Unfortunately, that's the reality of the way the media works. It may still happen, but at least (hopefully) it can all be put to bed in the next day or two and the media can go back to talking about the futures of other coaches ;)
