Split Round: WTF??

Sorry folks if this expat Croweater is a bit slow to catch on here but why does the snaffle need a split round when there is a bye in place? Thism means that the Eagles get a two week break in the latter stages of the season. Is that good or bad? Why did they bother with a split round?

Hi there Dazed,

I agree, with no state game on there is no need for a split round. The Eagles have had the bye last weekend and then the week off with a split round so go some 21 days without a game. There, IMO, is no need for a split round.

Funny. They were the "victim" of the same fixture outcome in 2010. I know for certain that the coach didnt much like it at all after giving the players a decent rest last year. He wont be doing so this year.

Regards,

Misty Mountain Hop.

Sturt last played July 16 ,play this week against Central Aug 6 then have another bye Round 22 Sept 3.

If we don't have the split round then the GF would fall the same week as the AFL .

Yep, the AFL's two extra rounds to accomodate the Gold Coast have meant the SANFL have needed to find an extra week or two of padding to play the SANFL GF the week after the AFL GF.

We have to make sure we finish a week after the AFL somehow.

also, and i am happy to be corrected, but is the grand final of the foxtel cup this weekend? would it have helped to have a guarantee of West, North and Port having this weekend with no SANFL in case they made it through?

If they feel the Split Round is a must, why not 2 games each weekend instead of 3 and 1 ?

Yeah, that seemed a logical decision didn't it?

Why not have 25 rounds? Start the season a week earlier, and no split round. Increase the salary cap proportionately and problem solved.

Not if the league started a week later if they didn't have the split round.

With the finalists of the Foxtel Cup playing four games in this competition, it effectively requires these teams to have four weeks off during the season. Because we have 3 byes, an extra week off needs to be allocated.

It doesn't explain why we needed a split round last year though.

I feel sorry for the people with no life. ;)

If you are desperate, go watch a real local game.
