A pretty important part in the Eagles win today was their remarkable efficiency inside 50. Forgetting their 15 inside 50s in the last quarter, in the first three quarters they had 24 inside 50s for 9 goals (38%). Norwood had 34 inside 50s in that same time for only 6 goals (18%). The final count finished 39-42 so Nathan Bassett would still be bitterly disappointed with the result given the sheer extra number of entries they had, only made to look not so bad given the Eagles won them 15-8 in the last term.

Very poor effort today, too many passengers and a couple of guys who are simply not up to it.
No panic stations, we are still 2 clear and have plenty of improvement.
Well done to the huge Norwood turnout, felt like a home game as we well and truly outnumbered their supporters, shame we witnessed our worst effort for the year

A good win that was overdue.

Godden must have been reading some of the comments posted on this site :D Almond and Rimmington dropped replaced by Lane and Batley. Redden spending significant time up forward.

We started to play a little better and more direct although there were plenty of moments throughout the match where we persisted going sideways and rather than kicking long. Thankfully these moments were not as often as the last 5 matches.

My best in no paticular order- Lewis, Goldsworthy, Giuffreda, Redden, Jarrad, Staple.

Well done Eagles, great win against the 2nd ranked and in form Redlegs. That now gives us just a bit more breathing space in 3rd. I still think the race for the premiership is a little more openb than most have thought. We still have a tough run home to come with a game against West @ Richmond followed by the bye and then Central, Glenelg @ Woodville. Win at least 2 of those and it should almost seal the double chance.

Listened to the last quarter of this match and from the sounds of it both sides, most particularly Norwood, have seen better days in terms of unforced turn-overs, seemingly almost fait accompli for one or two 'Legs players.

Loved the comment during the call "I've seen better kicking displays in an aquarium." Onya Chris.

Why no club song at the end of the match?

Much better! Thought it was going to be the Central game all over again, but the Eagles fought it out well. The first ten minutes of the 3rd quarter saw Norwood come out with some real intensity and it wasn't looking good at that stage, but Norwood couldn't capitalize on the score board and the Eagles went on to kick 3 goals in succession to take that lead into the final quarter. The wind towards the end of the game was not as strong as earlier and the last quarter saw the Eagles hold on pretty comfortably.

Some real positive signs in the form of Treeby, Staple and Redden. That was Treeby's best game since his best and fairest year a few years ago.

Norwood were surprisingly poor in defence and didn't tag any of our better players which allowed Jarrad, Lewis and co to roam around and create which generally means we'll win.

Next week becomes a huge game for the Eagles. A chance to cement a finals spot and strengthen a top 3 position before a two week bye which will be very handy for the likes of Grieger and Grocke who both look spent at the moment.

That's Glenelg that sing their song on the oval after average minor round wins not the Eagles.
