Trent Hentschel retires from SANFL

Postby CK » Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:08 am

Announced by Woodville/West Torrens this morning. Attached is the press release:

It is with regret that we advise that after 71 games for the Adelaide Crows and 50 games for the Woodville West Torrens Football Club, Trent Hentschel has made the decision to retire with immediate effect.

As you would be aware, Trent has had a number of significant injuries throughout his career. These have been compounded recently by a disc injury to his back that has hampered his ability to train and therefore play at SANFL level.

On his decision Trent said “Obviously I am disappointed that I am at this point, but this is tempered by the fact that I can say that I had a real crack at playing again”.

“I have always enjoyed being a part of the Eagles and my focus will now turn to contributing to the Club in a coaching capacity as well as my day to day role as Football Manager”.

Senior Coach Michael Godden said “Trent can be proud that he has left no stone unturned in his attempt to get back to a position where he can play consistent League Football for this Club”.

“From an on field perspective we are disappointed that he hasn’t been able to get himself right because we know he would have been an elite player at this level. However, Trent will still have a massive role to play in this Club’s success in 2011 and beyond”

Club CEO Chris Davies added “We are fortunate that Trent’s involvement with the Eagles does not end here”.

normally I don't comment on this sort of thing but THIS one is a REAL shame, could have been an absolute superstar.

Yes, it shows the difficulties and traumas players face.

Thanks for the memories, Trent and good luck for the future.

agreed!!! could have been anything.showed great courage to come back and play at all after such a horrific knee injury.

Great to see the loyalty he has shown the eagles too, would have been forgiven if he headed back to victoria after all the drama he has been through.

good on ya trent.

One of the unluckiest blokes to play football. On his day, was a very good footballer. My missus was in love with him.
So you've seen everything have you?

A great shame indeed ... Could have been anything this bloke if not for such an horrific injury!

Best of luck to him.

Shame for the bloke, but footy is tough on the body at any level and this was coming sooner or later. Agree with Centurion, could've been a superstar if it wasn't for that one horrific injury. TBH, I'm surprised he even played again after reading the descriptions of what happened to his knee.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

I suppose a little respect for the thread for a bloke who has given his all to play Football at the highest level his body could allow him is too much to ask from you Bunton...

If you want to have a go at Tiller and everything that the Eagles have done since Ron has gone down to South you could have at least started your own thread. Doing it in what should be a bit of a tribute thread is poor form... but right down your alley.

This is a shame. Was a great player on his day and I still believe the Crows premiership hopes went down when he hurt his knee. Good luck Trent.
