44.36 as percentage and in the top 5. Staggering. But says something about the comp.

West for their early dominance look like joining that battle for 9th

It's an unusual anomaly given South Adelaide breaks completely even in the first half. In fact they actually lead, on average, by 4 points at the 20-minute mark in the second quarter of their games this season. However, from time-on in the second quarter until the start of time-on in the fourth quarter, it falls to pieces.....

First 50 minutes:
(Q1 0m - Q2 20m)

For: 67.51.453
Agst: 61.53.419
Per%: 51.95

Next 60 minutes:
(Q2 20m - Q4 20m)

For: 57.57.399
Agst: 104.57.681 (+282 points)
Per%: 36.94!!!!

Final 10 minutes:
(Q4 20m - Full Time)

For: 14.7.91
Agst: 12.11.83
Per%: 52.30

While that's been broken down in a complex way over three quarters, to put it into perspective, South has conceded 103 goals in the second half of their matches this season (while only scoring 63 themselves). The closest team is Glenelg with 88. Centrals is best, having conceded 54, and Norwood next with 55.

So in a roundabout way, you can at least see why they're in the top five based on their first halves, and why their percentage is so low based on their second halves.

Giving up on games so early leads to losing points and losing finals.

Most games are won by the side winning early on, no doubt, but the greatest sides when when they're in front and also give themselves a chance when they're behind. Dogs 2 years ago won a flag by not giving up.

But a final 5 is MUCH better than a final 4!!

Well, the ladder is looking more log-jammed than ever with the Eagles losing, and wins to Glenelg over West, Sturt over North and South over Port.

Yeah the only certainties are Central and Norwood to earn double chance
