Serious answer, why don't you just say what you think.....

I count that as 22, WCP, not everyone who follows football know every answer, us Southies know all about our beloved Panthers, never be afraid to let them know you know more about footy as they do just because the happen to follow winning teams.

South have done nothing that all other successful clubs have done over the years, if you have not the talent in your own backyard, go and get it from other areas that have the talent but cant crack it into the big time. What we are doing better at since Ronnie has been here is to get out amongst the zone and sell the benefits of putting in the hard work and getting the rewards, not just think the $$$$ are better here or there and finish up another football nobody, and there are thousands of them around.

FWIW I've done the same exercise for Norwood's winning team vs Sturt, because I was interested in the answering the same questions:

a) came from other SANFL Clubs (and who?) 3 - Jericho, Bode, Clarke
b) are listed with the Crows/Power (and who?) 0
c) are recruits from interstate (and who?) 7 - Campbell, Terlich, Rowe, Suckling, Zorzi, McGuinness, Davis
d) are a product of the club's junior development program / Zoned Football Leagues? (and who?) - 10 - Dawe, Shenton, Brown, Pfeiffer, Georgiou, Fuller, Bown, Webber, Reinbrecht, Allen
e) are from some other category not named above (and who?) 1 - Eagleton - WB/West Adelaide - could be category (a) or (c) above, but put him here for simplicity.

FWIW our 22nd player named was Jefferies - a product of the junior system.

b)0-
c)8- Callinan (put him here because thats where he originally came from),Goodrem, O'Sullivan, Gowans, Spurr, Williams, Habel, Milne

and your 22nd player named last week was..?..whufc?

Unfortunately we might be straying a bit off topic here but I'd like to see this as a thread for discussion on it's own! (Moderators?). Ironically, the Norwood and Central teams are virtually identically composed - and South isn't much different either if you remove the 4 AFL listed players at South. Would love to see the same breakdown for the other 6 clubs.

Centrals named a squad of 23 last time. Hannath and Havelberg the two who came out to make the 21 named in the final side. I think they're both junior program graduates.

Davis should be in the same category as Eagleton. He played juniors at North, was surprisingly drafted (hence the nickname Smokey) to Sydney. Was delisted and signed to play at North, was then rookie listed back to Sydney. He was then completely delisted from Sydney and chose to play for Norwood, either because of the Norwood/Sydney relationship or because Norwood threw more money at him. Depends who you talk to.

Davis and Doyle asked for more $$$ than our Captain was on so they ended up at Norwood on who knows what re $$$ but that is between them and the NFC however they have got some great value out of Davis but Doyle - the less said the better and I don't think too many Nwd fans would disagree!

Going through the Eagles side yesterday:
a) from other SANFL clubs - 4 - Parry, Day, A Grocke, Hoban (?).
b) AFL-listed - 2 - Smith and Salter, but both were Eagles juniors.
c) interstate recruits - 4 - Rimington, Treeby, Jarrad, Powell
d) club's juniors - 7 -Hall, Rowntree, Goldsworthy, Geddes, Guiffreda, Staple, Cica. (10 if you count Hentschel, Smith and Salter)
e) others - 3 - McKenzie - rookie-drafted and then returned, Lewis and Grieger playing for country sides outside of Eagles zone.

Where do you class Henstchel - was from interstate, but developed by the Eagles, but if he had have been played for another AFL club probably wouldn't be at the Eagles.

Allmond and Sutcliffe were named in the 23 and are Eagles juniors.

Hoban hadn't played footy until he arrived at Oval Ave couple of years ago as far as I know so probably counts as an other.

So based on league squads of teams that played most recently (22 players), the general conclusion so far is that

roughly 45% of league teams are comprised of junior talent developed and promoted through a club (about 9 players)
roughly 15% are players recruited from other SANFL clubs (about 3 players)
roughly 30% are players recruited from elsewhere (about 6 players)
roughly 10% are from other categories (2-3 players)

Interesting!

Yeah, I know their history, but I counted them as others because they had left those clubs before being recruited

I thought Hoban came from the Bays with Godden, or am I confusing him with someone else?

I think you are thinking of Aaron Day, who did cross over from thr Bays when Godden came to Oval Avenue.

Peter Hoban comes from a basketball background, he was a rostered player with the Adelaide 36'ers.

Not sure if he has any footy background in his junior years though?

Yeah already had Day listed. Guilhaus was the player I was thinking of who also came from the Bays

Ah, sure.

He (Big Sebarton) didn't last long did he?

Nah he didn't. Bit surprised Hoban is getting a game, would have thought Bock and Redden (injuried?) would have been ahead of him.

Mason is a former Sturt junior/reserves player that North recruited this year from Pembroke OS, not a Roosters junior as listed.
