Thought Chook (and SANFL) fans might be interested to know that Damon White retired last night. Injuries finally got the better of him and he realised that trying to get back on the track was going to do him more harm than good. The ankle he broke while at the Power had been giving him grief ever since and combined with some knee issues this year, he just couldn't get fit enough to have any on field impact for Perth and was forced to pull the pin.

From one Chook fan, all the best for your future Whitey. A deserved skipper at the Roosters through some troubled times and to come back to the SANFL club that was his "home" club after AFL was much appreciated. Never took a backward step and gave it his best shot. Well Done

I agree he was a good player, not sure about getting more opportunity though.

Not sure that the majority of North supporters (or players for that matter) would agree with that statement?

As for coming back to North after his delisiting - we never got much out of him due to injury but given the $$$ thown at him any other player would have signed in his circumstances too.

He was however a player who when not injured gave his all to North when playing for us.

At his best was in the best 5 players in the SANFL imho. Would love to have had him at the Dogs over that period he was the exact type we needed.

Every opposition coach would have spent plenty of time thinking about what they would do to combat White whether he played in the forward lines or in defence.

Also love the youtube footage of the goal he kicked against Port from the center of Adelaide Oval, im sure all Rooster fans who were there will always remember that goal.

Knew his career was over though when Jack Gunston out marked him at Prospect a couple of years ago right in front of the Grog Squad, was an embarrasing effort!

good SANFL player, more opportunities dont think so

Had more talent than many AFL key forwards but didn't use it well enough to be anything more than a good SANFL player. Always thought if he played with a bit more toughness and hardness he'd find a regular game with the Power.

Was unlucky in that he was at the Power when Tredrea was at his absolute best.

While i think Tredrea is a knob his very best is as good as any other key forward in the last ten years. (which i think he gets underated for)

Port were very one dimensial and the other tall forwards played nothing more than a bit part work horse type role.

Just the one game I think? Perhaps two. He was very underdone and struggled for fitness with bugger all preseaon behind him.

His speech for the playing group was impressive, mentioned his time at North and how honoured and proud he was to have the captaincy at the club. Said he took a lot of positive things away from Prospect and was bitterly disappointed not to be able to bring that back to Perth and have an impact here.

Really decent bloke and hoping he'll still be around the club (plus he has some plumbing to do for me!). I'd suggest he'll be around the place seeing his brother is still playing.

His ankle injury was a shocker. It was at Prospect against West I think. Was just starting to show what he was capable of.

I've seen it up close, and he still doesn't have the correct range of motion in the joint. It's hard to play footy like that. Easy for people from the sidelines to say things like:

Had more talent than many AFL key forwards but didn't use it well enough to be anything more than a good SANFL player

But there's many times where footballers just arent physically capable due to on field injury.

Yeah not really true that. White was at his prime when tredrea hurt his knee.

I liked him a lot but his issue was whilst he was a beast at sanfl level, he fell over too much at afl level and he just never took contested marks. I remember at alberton when he dominated with 16 marks and 4 goals from chf but he just never took that form to the higher level.

Great guy though and it is a pity he did his ankle so badly. Not many 17 year olds kick 5 goals in their 3rd sanfl game. Did his ankle the next week i think
