Interesting to read the salary cap figures in KG's article and quoted in another thread.
Does anyone know the salary cap figures of both the AFL and SANFL since the inception of the Crows? Believe the SANFL cap was increased from $320k a few years ago? When did the SANFL salary cap come into place? What would have been the average player payment for a reserves player over this time, given solid rises in rent and other costs of living?

SALARY CAP should be way more that way you encourage the better players to put in the effort and get rewarded from lower leagues and that way you end up with a better state league and potentially better AFL palyers. Ain't hard Andy boy .Why more money isn't pumped into this is doing long term damage to footy. But that's Andy , worried about building his empire at the expense of the game.

I think the SANFL salary cap is around $350000. Seems pretty slim to me.

Interested in the trend of the reserves payments.
15-20 years ago 50 bucks per game may have paid for an 18 y.o uni student/footballer's shared rental or their grocery bill for the week, but these days no way near it, plus they have a greater commitment. Arguing the players don't deserve more for only playing ressies because the standard has gone backwards is arse-about-face - it has gone backwards because of the increased number of players leaving for far better money at lower levels

Fairly close to the mark on that figure. Salary cap in WA & VFL is about $125,000 VFL balance made up from AFL payments due to links with AFL clubs with alignments.

WA is the same level to ensure the survival of the clubs

Can't see where the SANFL clubs can cut a salary cap. Current cap is $337,000 I believe.Divide by 23 rounds and that = $14652:00 per round. 53 on NAFC list I think from memory and assuming the AFL listed players from that list are paid by their AFL club that equals 44 players on the payroll. Average that out and it equals $333:00 per player per round. Now obviously the top teir of players are going to get paid more than the juniors on the list

Considering that the commitment to play SANFL is now pretty well a 10 month of the year prospect I would divide that amount over the 10 months =$191:00 a week.

Pretty simplistic way of looking at it, but doesn't look excessive to me.

That is the reason a lot of good players don't play SANFL, they can play "Amateurs" for more money and only train twice a week instead of 3 times a week, pre season for amateurs usually starts earlier for SANFL as well. A few extra $$$ available could help entice some of the better players to the SANFL

42 players play each week, agile.

21 get Reserves payments, which leaves the vast bulk for league players. AFL players get a 'notional' amount, so I'll do the sums after that as soon as I can, but it would come to a much bigger weekly figure.
