That was the worst display of umpiring I've seen for a long time. James Allen is the umpires pet. May as well hand him the Magarey now.

A real get out of jail win by Centrals today.

First quarter looked like we were going to win in a canter. 5 goals to 1, Gunston on fire, and while we weren't at our prime, things looked good for a big win. Then a combination of North responding to our challenge and our complete disrespect to North Adelaide saw North slowly get in the game in the second quarter.

The third quarter was the worst quarter we've played all season. The side weren't respecting their opponents, a string of undisciplined frees and our defence being absolutely pathetic as North hit the lead and kept that lead going into 3 quarter time.

Unfortunately it took until the start of the last quarter when North kicked another goal to get to a 10 point lead before we woke up and realise we were a serious chance to lose this game. Then we got our game on. The last quarter was the best we played all day. We started taking marks inside 50, we were getting good run ons, this was the Centrals we know and love. North, to their credit, responded and into time on in the last the margin was just 1 point. However, another brilliant piece of play by Centrals resulting in Gunston's 5th and the sealer.

So we won, but it was a very frustrating game to watch. Today's match also showed North will probably be one of the best wooden spoon sides in the competition's history. They are not that bad (certainly not in the calibre of South last year or the North side of 2003), they just lack that winning instinct. Also, if Centrals put in that effort against Norwood next week, Norwood will win comfortably so I'd expect a lift in Centrals standard next week.

Centrals were terrible in parts of the last three quarters...the worst i've seen them play since the late 1990s...but even their worst was better than todays performance from the umpires!!!

If we go to sleep like that again against Norwood, we will get absolutely smashed!

Seems to be the theme for most games this season really.

Good effort by North by the sounds of it. Good efforts don't always produce Two points though 8)

It is spelt ALLAN btw! Umpires pet? Nothing to do with the fact he is the biggest possession gatherer in the SANFL so gets rewarded for being first to the ball and always in the game? So is that the best you can come up with to explain your teams win - I'm sure Centrals were off their game today and with all the help North got with the frees then we can all understand why it was so close in the end? Despite winning 9 flags from 11 GF's in a row some of you Dog fans have no sense of reality or humility. Never thought that the opposition may have played a decent game - it does happen you know?

North loses a 5th game it could have or should have won - very frustrating!

Centrals have had the umpires on their side for the past decade so they can't complain about today.

Enjoyable game of footy, both teams battled it out hard all day.

Don't think too many North supporters got excited when we looked like we might be getting on top of the game, we knew all it would take is a couple poor mistakes to cost us the game. And it did.

Another narrow loss, what a strange season North are having!

Umpires get blamed for everything, it's a reality, supporters very rarely acknowledge their side was not on song on the day, although a few Centrals fans have stated that their side wasn't up to scratch today, everyone picked North to be flogged today, they weren't guess that was the umpires fault

North played well. Good run from the backline. Missed a couple of easy goals. I didn't think centrals played that badly. Glad to get the win. The umps bought the crowd into the game.

I think you'll be struggling to find any Centrals supporters that thought their side played well.

Umpires just call the game as they see it. This whole idea that they are biased against one side or another is just bollocks. If anyone wants to prove themselves an idiot with no idea, just say how they umpires always favour someone. Or better yet try to say a certain umpire "hates us". Sure there are mistakes. Maybe today they did make a few. Maybe a few of those mistakes went in North's favour. Certainly there were times I didn't think I saw something that was worth a free kick. But guess what? I don't see everything. Nobody does.

Overall, Centrals played well early, then just got themselves into a horrible mess. Alleway first the first time ever against Centrals managed to be more than a total waste of space. And he was really very good. Managed to get some space early, took toll, and went from strength to strength with the confidence he gained. Hardy wasn't able to slow him down after Sibenaler's ordinary start got him going and it took Obst to just put him off his game a little in the last, which probably saved us from him kicking 10 and winning the game. A bunch of our on ballers were well down. Thomas and Boyd in particular. But I thought Sutherland was superb in the ruck. The way he gets involved around the ground is amazing for such a big bloke. Probably the best tackler as a ruckman we've seen in years too. Barmby was good in defense, Sansbury continued his good run of form, Spurr was excellent. Thought Symes dropped in and out of the game a little. His best is magnificent, while his worst is awful. Gowans and Havelberg didn't dominate but had class all over what they did.

Most importantly, another 2 points. These games where we bank points without playing well just make such a difference to how you can approach things as the season progresses. For North though a massively dissapointing loss. The game was probably more important to North than it was to Centrals. North with their season on the line, fresh off a light training run last week where they could choose to rest anyone they wanted and in the game right to the end. May not over and the season is basically already shot. I don't think they'll win the spoon, but finals are a long, long way off now.
