Football Park to be completely bulldozed

My understanding was that Football Park would continue in a limited form for the use of the SANFL clubs and remain as the Training base for the Crows. Reading this article and listening to the commentary this morning on AA, that appears not to be the case. No football oval is to be there in 25 years if it gets re-zoned which is fairly likely to happen considering the SA Govt wants the Adelaide Oval deal to go through.
I cant see them waiting 25 years to complete the project though and think it will happen much sooner. I do think its a good idea for the SANFL clubs to keep well out of the idea of playing matches at some kind of reduced capacity stadium that has no actual future. We have grown our numbers well by playing in the suburbs and with the various light projects and so on. I would suggest that Football Park be left to the Crows until they are ready to move - where that will be makes for an interesting discussion considering all the money put into the current facilities.
From Adelaide Now,
THE SANFL will write to the State Government outlining its need to rezone the AAMI Stadium precinct.
Football's return to Adelaide Oval in 2014 has the SANFL planning to bulldoze AAMI Stadium and convert its asset into a new mix of residential and commercial developments in a three-stage refit across 25 years.

Wonder where the Crows would relocate too? They've pumped a fair whack of money into their new fit-out too, and to think half of it will be irrelevant in 3 years.....

Seeind the precinct is going to be developed into commercial building Id presume they could sell off the Crows building without too much hassle.
My question is where will AFL preseason games be played?

Asked that question myself some weeks ago. Lots of unanswered questions.

It sounds like they won't be selling off the land so there'll be plenty of revenue still coming in from the rent they charge for the facilities they build on that land.
Kind of kills the argument that the SANFL are getting rid of an asset. They're just changing there asset to something different to keep getting revenue. Smart move.

There is a flyer about that outlines the SANFL initial plans.... best example is whaat happend at VFL Park at Waverley.
I got mine at City of Charles Sturt in Woodville.
The map shows almost all land EAST of the Crows HQ used for development with some small park area about half a football field in front of Crows HQ
The AAMI Stadium OVAL remains but with no grandstands of note, only Crows HQ remains.
There is also some development in terms of housing / commericial offices around the oval and in the North Western and South Western pockets of the AAMI Stadium precinct (ie both ends of Turner Drive)

Surely the question will be: "Where will cricket matches be played whilst the AO is being prepared for & being used for the AFL pre-season matches?"
Cricket is very much the secondary sport to football.

And any other suburban SANFL ground will do. By then the AFL pre-season (NAB) cup will be gone and each AFL team will just have 3 or 4 trial games.

Why can't the SANFL sell Footy Park to the government & they make it an athletics stadium. It would be a lot better than Santos Stadium. Shift the AIS offices from Sturt St there too. That way, if we ever hold a major international event( ie Commonwealth games ) , we have the infrastructure there , that may only need a spruce up.
Maybe the Crows could Santos Stadium as a training base.

In this deal, absolutely they are. Sure the $85M debt is wiped clean but other than Internationals at the venue cricket, as a sport, has largely been moved elsewhere in this deal as far as I can see.

sorry mate but that post is ridiculous.
cricket during cricket season, footy during footy season.
what if we are to host a shield or one day final, are you going to advocate that its played on a suburban ground so that a nothing trial game can be played their instead?
The saca has a right to use the ground when they want during cricket season i would have thought.

IIRC, the split was Footy March-Sep and Cricket Oct-Feb. You suggesting there will be no AFL played there in Feb? If not, where will it be played?

well the shield final is in march so somewhere else would be my answer.
i know i may be drawing a long bow here as the redbacks arent quite up to 4 day cricket, but who knows by some miracle it may happen.
i just think it would be a travesty if we had the right to host the final and it couldnt be held on our home ground.

The SANFL could sell it to anyone that was prepared to meet whatever price they believed was acceptable, whether that be government or not .. As vague as it all is at the moment, it sounds as though they will sell some of the land and retain some for the purpose of generating revenue and securing football in SA.
Unusually so for the SANFL, that would seem as though they are doing the right thing.

love the idea of watching footy at adelaide oval.its a great idea BUT i would be extremely p#ssed off if a shield final was played anywhere other than the sacas home ground.
