Round 4 - North vs WWT review

Eagles 15.5 95
Def
North Adelaide 12.8 80
Watched this one on the ABC, thought the Eagles looked flat all day despite getting up to win it. North seemed to fumble the ball at most of the contests and played some pretty poor footy as a result. Take nothing away from the Eagles though, any win is a good win especially when its an away win.

Was a better game to watch than the one on 501, except for the last five minutes of that game....
No, sorry, last 11 secs....

Much better performance by our guys.
Macca gave Gill a 'bath' - backed up his good efforts last week.
Eagles were much more committed this week although they appeared to work alot harder for their goals than North.
Probably fair to say the Eagles have some injury concerns - Parry is a worry.
Some good signs;
As I have been asking for, Day played pretty well in the backline.
Backline was solid - Patty played well in 'bear's' absence.
Fairclough looks like a real goer - has more pace than his brother (& that's saying something) plus his attack on the ball was excellent.
Grocke had a very good game & IMHO is an 'elite' player in this competition.
Bocky was good in ruck & Cicca had a great milestone game.
Angus played well in patches.
parry had a really good 1st half.
All in all happy with 2 points - much improvement still needed & next week's game will give a better guide I think. 6 / 10 performance today I think.

Good victory for the Eagles, considering they were 1 man down nearly all day. The 3rd qtr they played some good footy.
North's skills were atrocious. Fumbling the ball, handballing to team mates under pressure and turnovers killed them. At least they were doing the other things like tackling, chasing and applying pressure I guess. North didn't make enough of the opportunities that presented themselves, where as the Eagles did.
The umpiring was below standard, but so was the football played by both teams. Another player reported that will be wasting peoples time this week.
I think J Allan would of received 3 votes again today. Could have 9 votes already in the Magarey Medal.

I had a free ticket so I got my butt to Prospect for some live footy, great weather for a day out...My first trip to Chookland since I was a kid and I have to say, I was a little disappointed by the ground...With one stand undergoing redevelopment, and only North members in the Open grand stand, I elected to sit on the Main North Road side of the ground, from which I could:
NOT see the scoreboard,
NOT read the time clock,
barely hear the pathetic excuse for a siren...seriously the club have money for a rooster noise that could be heard at Scottys motel, but no coin for a decent siren or even a basic scoreboard above the BBQ between the stand undergoing rennos and the Cricket club?? really? IMHO If we want to continue to entice fans out of loungerooms and out to live games, I think all clubs need to give serious thought to the amenities at their grounds that add or detract from the fan experience. I feel strongly that the AFL has bred a generation of softies and if we want to attract fans back to the SANFL as they become increasingly more disillusioned with the AFL, we need to put a bit of effort into things like that which I've mentioned above..thoughts
On the game, the last quarter was a cracker, back and forth the whole 25 minutes and Lewis was clearly the difference for WWT.
Now I'm looking forward to Monday's blockbuster at AO:)

That would have to be the absolute worst game of football I have seen in quite a while. The biggest problem with the game is that the Eagles were just as bad, only they could kick the goals but would take nothing from the game. Nothing can be said in a positive light. Even the umpires had a bad one with one of the worst decisions of the day gifting Ryswyck a goal. What a load of shit to serve up to all supporters.

You kidding?
Even though we lost it was still much better than anything I've witnessed in about 3 years as far as enjoyable footy goes.

Wasn't that bad a game - Some good pressure by both sides. I think some posters are a bit hard on both these sides today.

Ahh well, we're all SANFL fans with a passion for our clubs, that's the main thing.

Seriously?, as a neutral I didn't think it was that bad at all, maybe the stellar last quarter has given me rose coloured specs, but I thought it was a decent game of footy, glad I got off my arse to see it live tbh:)

They said he had a two painkillers in his shoulder/collarbone 10 minutes before taking no further part.

I didnt think the game was too bad and was a better standard than 09 and 10
In North's last 5 or so games against the Eagles, I'd be interested in our scoring accuracy compared to the Eagles. I have a feeling that they are all similar to today.
- Also are our umpires at SANFL level permitted to pay holding the ball ?

It had some longish flat spots, but overall I thought it was a good game, with the Eagles' better finishing and fewer ballhandling errors giving them the edge. Magnificent game again from James Allan (26k + 19h) for North, and excellent CHF performance from Adam Grocke for the Eagles.
Great to see Freddie Bills there too.
