The Empire was struck down in brutal fashion last week under the Star Wars of West Adelaide. However, the Empire well and truly struck back with their brutal 77 point win over South Adelaide at Playford Alive Oval today.

The reserves set the tone with a massive win over the reserve. Pre-match then descended into farce with the dalecs invading the PA system, but that didn't stop the All Stars putting on a 5 star performance. However, the dalecs were destroyed just in time for the 2010 Premiership flag to be unfurled in quite an anticlimatic, and somewhat blase and lukewarm fashion.

However, once the siren started to start today's game, the Empire hit the ground running, in a quarter full of party tricks and great play. Within 12 minutes they'd equaled the number of goals kicked last week, and by the 17 minute mark of the first quarter we had bettered our entire effort last week. The game was pretty much all over at quarter time with Centrals up 6.3 to South, who were lost in space and sitting on doughnuts.

To South's credit, they responded in the second quarter kicking 6 goals. The Empire didn't want to see the first quarter effort wasted and kicked 5 to lead comfortably at half time, but not firing on all cylinders.

Darth Laird serviced the Empire at half time, making sure it was firing on all cylinders by the third quarter as the mini-league kept the crowd entertained. The third quarter started with the Empire completely disintegrating the Panthers, slamming on 4 goals in the first 6 minutes, and 8 for the quarter to race out to a big 3 quarter time lead.

The last quarter was just smooth sailing for the Empire pretty much doing what it pleased in setting up a 77 point destruction of South Adelaide.

Next week it's Return of the Jedi in the Grand Final rematch against Norwood on ANZAC Day. If we play like we did today, then we should win comfortably.

Massively disappointing effort from us today. Its a great to talk about five year plans and so on, yet the result clearly is many more performances like today over that time. It truly is beyond belief to me that we cant put together a side that can win a match against one of the top sides of the SANFL with all the resources that we have at the club. To have not participated in a Grand FInal since 1979 is just pathetic and to see year after year of shitty performances against top sides goes way beyond the pale.

As for Centrral they were a class above, clearly they will only get better as the season progresses - as per usual. They seem to be able to recruit and train players to be champion players at this level when they lose them, god help the rest of the SANFL if players like Callinan and so pn were available to play for them.

Back to normal transmission for Centrals today, probably no real surprise.

Watching the ABC telecast today, I noticed the commentators were pronouncing South player Veide as "Vay-da".

Anyone remember how the Glenelg player with similar spelling surname from a few years back had his surname prounounced, I thought it was "Vee-de" or "Veed".

Once again a televised performance and South let them selfs down with dishing up a embarrassing performance for all the world to see

Shocking disposals, basic skill errors, easily taken off the ball, no real game plan (Please Ron - but Ainger up forward!!!...he is a proven goal kicker!!) - it was really cringe worthy to watch that.

Central were so far ahead in their game - I mean really far ahead that we just looked like a second rate amatuer side.

I do really sound like a "broken down record" as year year I see performances like this and it really gets you down. At least be competitive South FFS!!!

Take nothing away from Central, you guys looked good. Backed each other up, skillful, worked for each other...dont listen to the non believers this year....you will be right up there again.

I need to drown down my sorrows and drink a bottle of red and wollow in my self pity of what could just be another crap year for me.

FFS show some fight and spirit South Adelaide!!!! :?

We did, but South were bad to the point of being totally inept and had no ability to put any pressure on, so it's hard to say what standard we were at today. The only bloke on the field who hurt the dogs in any way (IMHO) was MacLeod. He looked like he had some skill, pace and size about him for a young mid. The rest were totally reliant on turnovers to do damage. Veide kicked a few goals, but how many were won and how many were friendly donations?

Some of the South players were very lazy today. Might look good on the rebound being clear in space, but make no mistake: people notice when a player is instantly 10 metres clear on the rebound. Good players work for space, poor players wait for the space to find them.

I agree.....some players today (I could name) were so bad and disinterested.

Felt like they did not want to even be on the ground.

It looked "all to hard" for them.

Another year, another Elizabeth massacre.

Dogs too good. Thomas BOG. South..well, skill level left a little to be desired, and at times we looked simply lost. Too many dogs ran loose all afternoon. (the goal to Stansbury late in the first half when he waltzed down the spine of the ground unattended summed up the day). Would love to know how many goals the dogs kicked from less than 20 metres out through having extra men at the contest.

Tough day out for Wundke, but we need to be smarter going forward. The desperate long bomb into 50 didn't reap too many rewards today. Missing a Rolfe type who can be a clever crumber.

Free kick count: 34-15 Dogs way. Far too undisciplined and second to the ball.

Gotta get back on track and turn around a poor recent record against Port on Thursday.

Dogs last week would have beaten South this week, that was a disinterested South unit, particularly in the 1st when it mattered. Looking forward now to next week, great to have ANZAC day match back at Adelaide Oval where it belongs.

I thought the umpiring was deplorable once again today. It was terrible last week at Richmond and was all over the place again today. Whoever that Jockey sized fella was who was auditioning for the AFL needs to be sent on his way. Absolutely no feel for the game and was obviously over excited about being on the tv. More than a few times i was shaking my head at the frees we received. JUST LET THE BOYS PLAY!!!!!!!!

Dogs were back to what we expect. I also wouldn't be to downhearted if i was a South supporter. The dogs were always going to be up for this match after what happened last week and i thought the Panthers showed things in patches.

It's going to be a quite an even year in 2011 i reckon.............
