Good article because it's come from someone inside the game - and yep, he's not scared to verbalise it through the media. But unfortunately besides the recount of the conditions from the Norwood Port game, all the rest has been spoken about ad-nauseum. Nothing will change whilst the rest of the country is in a bidding war for either soccer, AFL or rugby teams to be located there.

The good thing about having 2 SANFL coaches writing regular columns for the Advertiser / Sunday Mail (Bassett and Francou) is that both aren't afraid to speak their mind. Also, if they write about the SANFL, as Bassett did in this instance, not only is it good exposure for the league but some of the opinions they have might be looked at more closely by people in higher places.

It is good to hear people going into bat for the SANFL and saying it exactly how it is.Too many people in the media and SANFL too scared to speak out .

All you have to do is tell the truth .

He is a good writer Bassett and obviously a very good coach.

Seriously, the best thing for footy in SA would be if the SANFL decided not to renew the Power licence. One profitable franchise vs one break even and one making a loss is a better return for the SANFL clubs - plus a game only every second week and the crowds would soon return.

And who knows, maybe the pissed-off Power fans who were once actually Magpies supporters might return to the SANFL.

Thought it was a very well written article, the SANFL would do well to consider some of the challenges that it presents, yet thats unlikely to happen any time soon.

Statistics don't lie, SANFL crowds are growing whilst attendances at Football Park are falling.

Perhaps the main rub of the problem is the fact that the Administration of the SANFL seem to totally ignore the local culture of the SA based footy fans. What works in other states simply doesn't work here. You cant make people from either AFL club like or support the other and to try is a massive waste of resources.

The SANFL could be doing much more to profile the SANFL competition, playing the opening match of the SANFL before the Port game was a huge mistake and they need to come out and admit it and actually apologise to Bassett and everyone else that was affected by what was offered to the SANFL clubs on the day.

At the end of the day I doubt the sincerity of the SANFL administration when they say they want people to support the Power, if they did genuinely want numbers to Power games, they would at least trial night footy Power games at Adelaide Oval, if they got 30 000 paying customers it would be a ripping success. They wont ultimately because its easier to make it the problem of the Port Adelaide Board who have no capacity to do anything, instead of taking action themselves and actually really trying to deal with the issue. They will happily suck the club dry of finances however, yet keep going as they are and it may well cost them much more than what it might have cost them to host matches at Adelaide Oval.

Taking into account the entrance costs , food and drink prices , somehow that doesn't surprise me (and probably lots of Crows/Power/AFL fans who find Aami Stadium (not Football Park) too expensive to attend more games.)

Yeah it's a rip off compared to other venues, cheapest ticket $26 for Port and $28 for crows compared to the MCG and Docklands $20, not to mention $12 to park your car. The SANFL are crooks.
