This is set up to be a really good game of football, Westies will be confident after their good win last week while Central will be keen to get their season underway after the bye.

Looking forward to this one for sure, post away your thoughts...

As mentioned about 3 or 4 times in varying threads, Alan Obst is out for the Dogs after suffering a broken jaw in a night club incident...

Sorry to interupt your conversation with yourself BP (ie first two posts  ) - but all jokes aside this could be the match of the round. Westies kicking 17 goals taking on the reigning premiers who had the bye in round 1. And at Richmond under lights. Will be interesting to see how the bookies size this one up.

Westies promotion, print out a free ticket to get in. Make sure if you use one to buy a beer or a bbq product to support the club.

Pity the Port Magpies didn't do that last Saturday.

But hang on - the Power did.

Well done Westies!

Agree, and i think if west cant beat the dogs now they most certainly wont later in the year.

Westies coming off a good performance while the Dogs first hit out could take a while to adjust to the higher intensity of season proper.

Also West will want to take advantage of having Ferguson, Hartlett and Fisher all on the park at the same time, it will be interesting to see how many times that happens throughout the year.

West by 5-6 goals after dominating the first quarter imho.

Regardless of the result of this game, there is no reason why West won't improve as much as Central as the year goes on.

yeah but you wont get to play them again this year at Richmond under lights (where westies play really well) and before they have played a serious match for the year.

Will Westies continue to try and play that attacking style football which they played against North?

The last few games against CD at Richmond West have dropped lots of numbers behind the ball from the opening bounce.

If they play with the attacking intent as in Round 1 i think they could be a potential top 3 club. Or like last year will they go defensive against the 'better' sides and attack against the 'lowly' sides?

Perhaps they now have players to make the game plan work?

There are many reasons why you wouldn't expect West to improve as much as Centrals after this game. The fact they've already had a hit out, big game under lights at home, Centrals just suddenly losing a key forward in the last few days. Not to mention the dogs have a tendency to roll into a season somewhat slowly, just not so slow they lose touch with the top sides.

Will be very interesting to see the adjustment with all these changes in key posts. Best full back from last year gone, one of the premier ruckmen gone, one of the best key forwards of the last 10 years gone and his replacement suddenly gone too. The midfield should be at least as strong when the ball hits the ground, and the backline I have faith in. There is now a chance of our rucks being dominated and the forward line will be interesting. I'm not sure what Daniel Havelberg's fitness is like but if he's back to a good level he could well be the most valuable player in the comp now.

Will be very interesting to see what Fisher does in his second game.

Central may well improve, but there are reasons why most sides might improve.

Many posters seem to think West are playing a new style, so why wouldn't they keep improving as they become accustomed to it?

Why wouldn't they improve as their recruits such as Brad Fisher and Ben MacReadie get more game practice?

Who knows what might happen. IMO some sides will improve, some will go backwards.

We'll just have to wait and see which ones do which.

Central's fans' efforts to paint their team as the underdog are admirable given their record over the last ten years.

I believe the last time the Dogs lost their first round game was 2001

That can't be right. We have just been told how badly the Dogs start the season. I'm confused. :?
