Suspension question

Postby Dirko » Mon Mar 28, 2011 3:59 pm

1. If an AFL listed player is reported in the SANFL and found guilty, and say given a week, can they play AFL the following week if called up?

2. Also if an AFL player is suspended, can they then play SANFL the following week, and thus serve out their suspension by still playing at the lower level?

Will both Chris & James Gowans get reported by trial by video this week?

No, not this time round ;)

One played reserves on Saturday (James) and was involved in a bit of biffo with North's Ben Williams while the other (Chris) played league and had an interesting little 'get together' with Cain Ackland.

Umpires boss Shane Harris was in attendance at Elizabeth on Saturday and might have just had a closer look at the footage today?

Do we have video evidence though ? I thought for some reason we didn't as there never seems to be talk of it . Might be wrong though.

I'm pretty sure it (video coverage) can be, and has been used in season's past? Wasn't video footage used in one of the suspensions Adam Grocke received last season?

Not 100% sure myself but know for a fact that umpires observers were asking the camera man at Elizabeth on Saturday for footage from a certain time in a certain quarter.

But that may just mean footage for umpiring coaching purposes ,certainly sounds like it ? Interesting one as I thought video evidence needed to be requested or referred but by another party not the umpires ?

Fair enough. Like I said, not 100% about it but the footage the umpires observers requested to see post game was around the same time as a certain incident. Time will tell I guess.

There is a video review panel which looks at all games.

The tribunal this year will operate on a points system.

why? if you belt someone, it's wrong & you should expect to get at least a reprimand.

Although the answer is no, different rules seems to apply. Chris Mayne was suspended while playing for Perth reserves last year and Fremantle leaned heavily on the WAFC to get him off.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

What's that got to do with getting a reprimand if you belt someone? Nothing changes.

We might not need a points system, but we've got it.

Although the answer, no, has been posted. I would like to offer a bit more info.

A suspension applies to all clubs throughout Australia. For example, if a SANFL player get suspended, say in the finals, and then retires (from his SANFL club) and signs with another club (anywhere in Aust) the suspension still applies and he will have to sit out the relevant number of games (with his new club) until the suspension has been served out.

Years ago I was involved with a College club (won't say which). And one of our players was a bit upset (for want of another word) with an umpire. Walking off at the end of the game, he removed his jumper and swept the jumper over the ump's face. He was reported for assaulting an umpire, found guilty and was suspended for (if Iremember correctly) about 15 games. Before he finished his suspension, he moved interstate where the remainder of the suspension would have been carried out with the new club. If I remember correctly, the transfer form has a part to fill out whether the player seeking transfer is under suspension at the time of the transfer.
