Obviously all these ratings things are done for purely discussion points and obviously they will never be 'right' or 'correct.
From a Central point of view i would have
-Andrew Hayes alot higher than number 25, he is an absolute gun, top 10 for me.
-Yves Sibenaler a fair bit too high imho, very good player, awesome full back but like all FB's is heavily reliant on his defence around him, gun FF's have tended to do pretty well against the dogs in recent memories.
-I hate when they do Chris and James as one, a bit disrespectful imho
-Leigh Spurr about right BUT this year i think he will gun it and be in the elite of SANFL players
-I think Scott Dutschkes omission is pretty fair on last years performances.
Sidenote-
Not sure how Eagleton, Fisher, McMahon and Obst can all be in there considering they havent played SANFL in at least 3 or so years.

Actual article mentioned that the former AFL were selected on "spec" as they are quality recruits.

I agree with your points mate, particularly regarding the disrespect toward the Gowans boys .. Each should be judged in their own right, and I think the author is either showing a lack of knowledge, lack of effort, or both in that instance.
These lists are usually quite different by the end of the season, so I don't place too much stock in them personally.

Do agree, but i do think they bring up good, fun, easy going discussion points which sites such as this thrive on.
If you were attempting to do a serious list of players imho it would have to be done in position categories ala top 20 midfielders, top 20 key position defenders, top 20 ruckmen etc etc

If they could not be split, then they would take two positions ( there is 51 players in their 50).
As a pair, without doubt number 1 or 1 and 2.

You obviously havent watched last year's grand final.
Just because in a team that finished 6th you stand out better than a player in a team finished 1st, doesnt make you a better player.

He obviously didn't stand out too much if Sylvester was rated 22 players in front of him and Fisher 15 in front from the same team.
Just for the record I think the Top 50 is a "debacle" though!

Doing it for more than 4 games in a season might though.

IMO Fergusson is a better play but his lower ranking might be because he missed quite a few games through injury last year.
Wedgie, is "debacle" you new favorite word

Yes and some games (particularly those in Sept/Oct) are more important to perform at than others.
Anyway i'd pick Sibenaler over Ferguson.

Both very good players, BP.
I don't see Centrals every week, of course, but I think Yves is a very solid team player who complements a good backline in a very good team. I give him a lot of credit for showing such good form, as I thought he was slowing down a fair bit, so kudos to him.
I'm biased about Ferguson, naturally, but I called him as a very good player two years ago and was laughed at. He has subsequently represented SA, getting 2nd best on ground, been in the Team of the Year and won 2 B & F's at West Adelaide. IMO, he is comfortably the best player I've seen at Westies for years.
I rate Jarrod Silvester, but I wouldn't put him in the top 6 players in the league yet and I certainly wouldn't have him above Ferguson.
In terms of range, I'd have Ferguson in the top 15, Silvester and Sibenaler maybe 15 - 30. If you think top 15 is wrong, let me just say that it would take me a nanosecond to choose him above Boyd, for example.
The one proviso is that Ferguson missed half the season last year, but I presume these rankings are for 2011.
I also should say that I know the list is opinion, so good on them for having a crack at it.

tend to agree with all of what you said,
i dont think you can really compare Ferguson and Boyd and thats why i dont take to much into these lists.
If you go on games played and form Boyd would be ahead of Ferguson based on 2010 performances. BUT importance to their side and potential ability arent really looked at in these type lists. Plus the two players are at the opposite end of playing styles there really is no comparison.
For mine Ferguson would be in the top 3 key position defenders when fit. Boyd would be in the top 10 midfielders in the comp imho.

Nicely put R&B, and for what it's worth, I agree with you...
I think when he has his body 100% right, Ryan Ferguson is one of the best players outside the AFL - the guys courage is 2nd to none, except maybe Andrew Hayes.
