I know its early but most teams have all but finalised their recruits and are putting the final touches on their pre season before the trial games starts.

At this early stage where do you see the sides finishing.

Glenelg
Eagles
Central
Norwood
North
Sturt
West
Port
South

**Disclaimer, I'm always a pessimist when it comes to Central (thankfully recently for no reason). Order subject to injuries and AFL players qualification.

For me

1. Eagles- second year under Godden, have recruited well, finished off 2010 very exciting

2. Central- have lost a few but have picked up a few that will add depth, improvement will come from Havelberg playing more and a fresh Obst in the forward line.

3. Glenelg- could have won the minor premiership on the final day in 2010. Have lost experience but still have the core group. Will be strong again in 2011.

4. Norwood- have lost argubly there 3 most important players. Have recruited well but think they make lake a tad pace to pull of the same game plan as last year. Probably still one big forward short as well.

5. North- will surprise some but first year coaches have a good record in the SANFL especially ones coming from an AFL background. Playing group will thrive of having a more attacking game plan, still have enough overrall talent to threaten the top sides.

6. West- will need to play a more attacking style if they are to make step forwards, have lost there leading goal kicker last year. Question marks over a few recruits including Fisher who could make or break West season, if they are to improve they need more game time out of the Harlett and Ferguson.

7. Port- were impressive last season despite results, had a very young squad and another year in the gym and on the track will improve this side dramatically. Have added some depth to the squad by picking up players from other clubs will continue their improvement.

8. Sturt- Lost a fair few players and have picked up players with question marks hanging over them. At times last year seemed like a divided group. Norman to be first coach gone in 2011. Plus i just dont like them.

9. South- Are starting from a long way back, will improve their win loss ratio but wont be enough to stop them from getting the spoon in what will be a very even season.

Centrals (Who can tip against them)
Glenelg
Eagles

West
North
Norwood
Sturt

Port
South

I see a definite top 3 then 4 teams fighting out for the last 2 spots in the 5. Westies at 4th is me being hopeful but Norwood and Sturt have lost some quality. Port and South will battle for the spoon again.

After Minor Round:

Centrals - Still gonna be up there, have lost a couple but Laird pulls players out of his backside
Redlegs - Have lost quality, but recruited well, Bassett has the respect and confidence from the players
Eagles - Will be up there, recruiting looks sound

Glenelg - Proven Minor Round performers
Westies - Depends if they attack more, if not wont make 5 again
Sturt - have lost a couple quality players

North - Recruiting has been inconsistent, some ok some soft as butter
port - Should surprise a couple of teams, but still will be a young side
South - who can tip them to finish off the bottom

GF - Centrals v Norwood again!!

Cheers

Typical Sturt arrongence....wake up Clarrie and smell the roses - it ain't to rosey down Unley way and it will show in 2011.

We will see at the end of the year mate. ;)

I remember a few years back you spouting the exact same line Southee and we made the top three...

You really seem to have a chip on your shoulder when it comes to Sturt. I think you'd secretly like to drop the Panthers and come across to the good side. I think you don't want to face up to the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want to be a Double Blues man. Can you handle the truth???

I do worry for Sturt, I think this will be a tough year for them. I just can't for the life of me see them holding on to that top 5 slot. With North, West and Port all closing in. But they are safe from the spoon, that's not going anywhere anytime soon IMHO.

I see the comp being a 3 division thing of sorts this season. The top 4 being Centrals, Glenelg, Eagles and Norwood will battle it out for the top 3, how much Glenelg hurt on field from 2 massive final campaign failures will be interesting. The next 4 of West, Sturt, North and Port will fight for 5th. I think Port are the least likely and will probably finish 8th, but certainly a lot closer to the pack than previous years. South will again do the heavy lifting, holding up the entire ladder and will be rewarded with spoon number 27.

So, I give you my prediction, FWIW.

Centrals (doubt anyone will begrudge me putting them here)
Norwood (lost class, but still look a strong side)
Eagles (team chemistry early vital, veterans have to keep contributing)
Glenelg (I think the energy will start to wane)
West (Collins has improved West every year, no reason to expect it won't happen again)
North (might find out that it wasn't the coach or the game plan but the players just no up to it)
Sturt (some vital players gone, will see them slide again)
Port (youth a year better, will win more games but need to look to 2012 onwards for finals)
South (by June the fans will want Fuller gone)

I also make this prediction. 2 of the 3 sides in the national cup thingo will love it and won't have a single regret. 1 will rue a lost opportunity to make a more serious run at an SANFL flag.

Big call calling Clarrie arrogant when you think South will finish 4th after their bottom last year and contuinous letting down of their meager supporter base for the last 30 years with the crop they could have picked.

Sturt finished 1/2 game of 3rd last year remember , interesting to see this thread raised again in Sept I think.

South suupporters should just sit quiet for a while before they gain some respect.
