looks good, however not sure how two qafl teams and two tassie teams get to play each other in the first round whilst the crossover between vfl and wafl happens twice. Not sure about the equality of that one.

While West, Port & North try to win this Mickey Mouse competition and risk injury and/or humiliation (There will always be some upsets). I will just sit back and enjoy my team concentrating on what they need to do to make finals (and hopefully win one this time).

Dunno about this being a mickey mouse comp.
I can see this format being the precursor for a national second tier comp in 10-20 years time. I think it will get legs, sponsors will get some revenue back on their investment - on a national level, players will be up in front of selectors/scouts from AFL clubs (so thereby it being a chance to get noticed) and overall I think it's been long needed.
If we have to go through another year of Centrals winning the whole thing, then bring this on I say!

I guess thats my point.. Would rather have the fittest and most switched on team possible for a tilt at the flag.. I'd hate to see someone like Ty Allen go down with a season ending injury while playing for not too much against Labrador..

Don't think they might have a bit of CDF and nurse/rest players if required, play juniors ....
What about if Ty Allan were to injure himself in a training drill during a bye? These things happen but it does not mean you should never do them.

Yes, because no-one EVER gets injured in trial games.

Yep, people get injured in trial games, and yes you would manage your list for the Foxtel games. But someone tell me what the bonus is for any team from the SANFL competing.. I agree the talent scouts would be taking notice, but that happens anyway regardless of having this competition.
If it were such a good idea, why did are 3 of the bottom teams the ones involved after the top teams declined?

I can remember poor ol' injury-plagued Stephen Barratt ripping his finger off while jumping the fence going out on the ground for training...

Refer to previous thread on "Second Tier Comp" in this forum.
The "bonus" for competing?
Well, in the main, Clubs and their players exist to PLAY football. This gives them an opportunity to play. The three next to bottom clubs could see that it suited their clubs. Saying that players needed the bye etc. was and is a complete ignorance of managing a list in terms of priority. You could and can play the under 18's if you desire.

It's pretty clear that it is a Mickey Mouse comp. 18 minute quarters with time on only being added for the last three minutes. The comp has been created purely to trial the late Saturday afternoon timeslot for Foxtel with the expectation the 9th AFL match will be broadcast in this time slot.

True they do and its always considered such a terrible waste.
ie. like if it occurred during a Foxtel cup/non champions league game.

I don't agree that reduced quarters makes it MM.
Surely this helps alleviate some of the concerns about player management/welfare and also is an innovative way to help the lower ranked teams compete with the more higher ranked, as shorter quarters reduce the advantage of the superior conditioning you would expect that the SANFL,WAFL & VFL might have.
I think we should be applauding some of these innovations rather than dismissing them just because they are different to what we are used to.
Sure, some of the reasons may be to fit in with Foxtel's schedule - but if it turns out to be win - win then where is the issue?

Is there a North, Port or Westies supporter that is unhappy about their team's participation in this competition ????
If so, I havent heard them as the only people bagging the Foxtel Cup are suppoerters from the teams that knocked it back.
North are not in a position to seriously challenge for 2011 Flag so Im happy to see them in this comp and see where it leads to
