It's also the second year in a row that the Eagles have the bye over the split round. I'm not sure if it is a good or bad thing - I think we looked a bit rusty in the first quarter of the game following the two week break last season, but you could also argue that it will allow the team to freshen up and have a bit of a break before focusing on a big run into the finals (hopefully).
If Sturt or South didn't want the two weeks off they could have been a bit smarter with the fixturing - maybe swap Glenelg v South with Central v Sturt (and if they want a "blockbuster" game on each weekend, move Norwood vs Port to the second weekend).
From my point of view for the Eagles games:
1. Playing South in round 1 is probably the worst time you want to play them (their recent history early in a season is comparatively better than anytime after mid-May).
2. During the middle of the season we have a run of 12 games of which 6 of these are against either Central or Glenelg. As they are proven performers (at least in the minor round in Glenelg's case), this will be tough section - meaning that a strong start to the season will be critical to finishing in the top-3.
3. Happy not to be playing a curtain-raiser to the Power.
