Adelaide United - the North Adelaide connection

With Rob Gerard, Greg Griffin et al taking on the Adelaide United Football Club, there is a strong NAFC connection to the club.
It seems Glen Elliot is going to be the Red's CEO, while some admin roles will be shared between the two clubs.
Regarded as an Australian first....
Not sure about that, someone might like to refresh our memories of the Carlton and Collingwood connected NSL clubs in the 90s and how they worked...
Anyway, how will all of this affect the NAFC? Will it have any benefit for the two clubs?

Well as a paid up member of the Port Adelaide Football Club and the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club I wholeheartedly oppose any relationship between a SANFL and a Hyundai A-League club.
I feel very, very strongly about this and I will soon be posting a 1000+ word statement regarding this issue.
I will then withdraw said statement by noon tomorrow as I back down like a little lamb thats been confronted by a big bad wolf...

Interesting concept, one would think the North Adelaide CEO has enough on his plate at North to worry about getting involved with a second club in a different sport, just wonder whether he will get double the pay
Perhaps a move for double headers in the near future, soccer game then a SANFL game.
Will watch this one with interest

Glenn can't do both jobs so I suspect that a new CEO will be in at North soon - maybe Greg Edwards.
Also NAFC Board Member and club Dr, Richard Noble is part of the ownership consortium!

Pity the A-League season is done by then.
Whats the odds on a special report from Rucci in Tuscany about his thoughts!?

North supporters will now start chanting like Centrals Supporters. Also the players will be diving left, right and center

'Go you Reds' all day

Hm wouldn't get too excited just yet - the club is about to put out a members notice re this news and my "mail" is that Glenn will be staying at North long term - interim will be both until certain postions are appointed at AU.

Oh well, at least it makes North fans feel better with our sister club being even more mediocre than us.
I would have though with Adelaide Uniteds track record in big games a partnership with the Bays could be in order.
It's a pity Adelaide Citys club rooms are a rival of the Grand North as we could have joined with them and been proud of our little soccer brother with a proud history.
The way the ALeague is going in this country we'll probably get more years service out of Brett Backwell than Adelaide United.

This.
Could they be any more hypocritical?
I assume that NAFC will have an enforced spending cap now?

At least I'd see my team win one game that day. Go the Mariners!

I would be very surprised if it had anything to do with North Adelaide Football club. I think it is just a couple of North members who have bankrolled Adelaide United. The headline might just have easily been Liberal Party stalwarts prop up Adelaide United given that Gerard is the patron of the Liberal Party in SA and Dr Noble stood for the Liberal Party in the seat of Kingston a few elections ago.

Robran, according to what I heard Gerard say this morning there will be strong links with the NAFC, particularly the admin stuff.
He said something along the lines of "We have a winter sport and a summer sport and we will look at any sharing we can do". That's not verbatim but that was the 'vibe'.
