2011 AFL Draw - from SANFL perspective

AFL Draw out today.

SANFL impacts ???

- the first I see is in the 11 weeks from Rd 2-Rd 12 ( should be Rd 1 -11 in SANFL)
there are SIX Saturday afternoon games at AAMI Stadium ( 3 Crows, 3 Power)
one of those is Port v Freo Sat May 21 going head to head to proposed VFL v SANFL in Melbourne
- so expect a lot of night & Sunday footy for first few months

- But after Rd 12 no Sat Aft footy, given there is less SANFL night footy heading into June this is not so bad.

- If State Game goes ahead Sat May 21 chance for great feast of footy in Melbourne that weekend
Fri Night - Carlton v Geelong @ Docklands
Sat Aft - VFl v SANFL @ ???
Sat Night - Richmond v Essendon @ MCG (Dreamtime Game ??)
Sun Aft - Adelaide v Collingwood @ MCG

- Big opportunity for almost a weekly Friday Night SANFL game through April & May
- Crows not on Friday Night until Rd 13 (June 17)
- Only 1 Power Friday Night game (Rd 7 May 6 v Hawthorn @ AAMI)

- NO AFL Free weekend as such but Crows / Power both have 2 byes
- Power Rd 12 & 18 (no game at AAMI)
- Crows Rd 2 & 16
- Power & Crows both on Road in Rd 13 (no game at AAMI)

- SANFL Rd 1 will be interesting
- if it goes ahead AFL Rd 2
- Crows bye
- Power Sat Afternoon @ AAMI v West Coast

So in a nutshell we should expect lots of Friday night and Sunday games early in the season.

Then Saturday afternoon game should be the norm for the middle to end of the season.

impact on me? None, I will still go and watch Centrals & not go to watch The Crows or The Power.

It was released on November 25 last year (albeit via the North Adelaide website before the SANFL released it) so I guess end of next month roughly...

They wouyld need this time to now sit down and take in the AFL draw from the Crows / Power perspective and weigh up all the clubs request before finalising something.

Really look forward to seeing the draw for next season, lots of Friday night and Sunday games hopefully...

If the club (Central) do a little more upgrdae work to the 'lux' output of their lights, like they said they would look at, then their might be a possibility for more night games at Elizabeth next season.

From memory, there is a thread somewhere on here that discusses the various 'lux' (brightness / output) of each of the lighted SANFL venues.

Norwood from memory had the most 'lux' output but remember their oval size is one of the smallest in the league so it covers the playing surface and outer more than adequetly enough.

The only criticism of Richmond is a 'dark spot' in the middle of ground and in the pockets so perhaps the 'lux output' just needs to be slightly increased or the angle of the dangle needs to be adjusted slightly...

Obviously with Elizabeth Oval there is a larger surface area and surrounding supporter area for the lights to cover. Tim Clements, the marketing manager at Central, was telling me earlier in the year that the club would look at increasing the 'wattage' of their lights over this summer.

The vast sum of money Norwood spent on upgrading their lights to a professional standard obviously had nothing to do with it then.
