Poll - Which would you prefer?

Interested in your thoughts as it appears we won't have both.

I put in the neither option for those who dislike the idea of both.

Ideally the first one would be the pinnacle of what our players could achieve, and the media and crowd support would reflect this, but this doesn't seem to be the case at the moment.
So, probably the second one provided the players took it seriously, it received reasonable acknowledgement throughout Australia and it didn't impact on our regular season too much.

i like the idea of clubs battling it out with clubs around the country, however i don't trust their (afl) reasons for this suggestion
i thought secret groups were a thing of the past, well not on websites anyway

State Footy is still the pinnacle for me.

Indeed, a round robin state carnival would be more attractive to me than a club knockout. Even if the round-robin format was not condensed into a fotnight but was spread out over the course of a season with similar scheduling to what is contemplated for the club format.

I havent sat down and thought this out, but one option could be as follows:

You could have 8 teams still, (1 for every state and territory). They could be split into 2 groups with home and away games culminating in a 'final'. The burden could be spread across all clubs in terms of players being selected, by having a requirement that say a minimum of 2 players represent each club (9 SANFL clubs = 18 players) with the final to be the Best team a state/territory can select and put on the park. It would also make it easier to coordinate split rounds rather than byes, or you could even just have one free weekend given every club would miss at least 2 players per game so the impact is spread out. Prizemoney and appearance money could then be paid as a dividend to the 9 clubs. Those selected would get paid their normal match fee plus a small bonus for wearing a state guernsey. State games might also encourage more crowd/viewer interest especially from the point of view that in the current proposal, only a few clubs in each league are to be represented meaning a lot of people may not be interested enough to watch and as someone suggested earlier, the successful clubs might make even more money.

With the SANFL becoming pretty predictable these days it would be nice to have a "champions league" competition to mix things up.

I don't want that to sound like sour grapes... my club is substandard and so are every other team except Centrals, and we all have to close that gap in culture and professionalism. But until that happens its pretty boring!  If centrals don't want to go then send the next two. As long as the prizemoney is worthwhile.

I loved the old state-of-origin battles but the state-league battles just aren't the same, you're playing for the league, not your state

I can't see any point unless we disband the present AFL in favour of the club based knock out competition.
A true national competition, that is not an enhanced VFL run by Melbourne, may just grow out of that. ;)

No. I just can't resist any chance to have a shot at the Alternative Football League an those who dragged us into it.
And "I have a dream!", a fading dream of a true national competition, but I'm hanging on to it..
