Would very much like to know where the reporter has got his information from and what exactly is going on!

It doesn't appear to be a full merger:
Under the proposed arrangement, the clubs will share office and social club facilities and offer joint AFL-SANFL club membership, providing huge savings and the ability to generate more revenue
Isn't this is what is happening now anyway? I dont have a problem with it, let them go.
I still think if a full merger went ahead, the Power would just wrap the Magpies up saying it's all too hard, keep all the assets and blame everyone else. The Power supporters are a strange mob, declaring that the Magpies are a fake club formed in 1997 stealing their heritage.

It better not mean that they get all the Power Players in the rookie draft -
What about the other SANFL clubs - we should get a bigger admin subsidy OR the crows dividend bypasses the magpies

As long as we keep the POW and our membership money goes to us I do not have an issue.
the age made it sound like a Partnership not a merger. No issue with it. I heard this similar story form a good source two weeks ago but even they still called it a merger.

read todays budget on the port page which is on page 36 & there it is in black & white (pun intended) club formed 1870 & as most of us know the magpies ARE THE REAL PORT & the power are an afl franchise using the port name

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH.. love other supporters telling us all about OUR club. Why don't you worry about your own club's increasingly embarrassing history?

Because Port are embarrassing the history of SA footy as a whole

Yep, you're just so spot on it is hard to believe. 14 years of debate and you just nail it in one sentence....

And to think it took an article in the Budget to set things straight. Another quality publication from the boys at SANFL house.

Port Adelaide Magpies FC- great club, tremendous history, impressive resume, even if they are in a bit of a lull at the mo.
Port Adelaide FC (The Power)- Crap. No history, so they've stolen the history of another football Club.

It gives me the absolute sh1ts!
I can't believe it!
There is only one club.
Either the AFL franchise OR the SANFL one has that history from 1870- you cannot have it both ways...
And it is pretty obvious that the SANFL entity has that history.

For a period of history, there was only one Germany until 1945. When they were divided, which was the real one?

A Country is a little different to a football Club, IMO.

you can't compare the 2 Port Adelaide Football Clubs to Post war Germany
Legally speaking and it has been mentioned on here several times before that the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club is the real Port Adelaide FC.
I am by no way a Port Adelaide fan but nothing irks me more than seeing images of the back of the Power's jumper with Est 1870. The AFL Port Adelaide should have Est 1996 FFS!

Quite simply, you can't compare because you don't want to.
As a PAFC Member, I wasn't asked to vote to create a team for the AFL, I was asked to vote to move from the SANFL to the AFL.
And as a PAFC Member, at the same meeting I was asked to vote on maintaining (not create) a presence in the SANFL.

The way I read it, there was the Port Adelaide Football Club, established 1870, in the SANFL, and subsequently the same team that joined the AFL comp in the 1990's.
At the same time (as the PAFC joined the AFL), a new entity, the Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club, was formed, and began in the SANFL.
FWIW, the PAMFC haven't been too successful in their current format.
Also FWIW, if I am not right, why are they merging? If they were the same club, they wouldn't need to merge, right?

Think you will also find that the members of the PAFC were also asked to vote on changing the name of the Club to Port Adelaide Magpies Football Club.
to confirm this go and find a player from the era that was not taken to the AFL and ask him if he was required to sign a new contract to continue playing in the SANFL with Port Adelaide. Those players left behind continued with their contract with the same party but it had a name change.
